Spurs play Inter Milan, Borussia Dortmund, Real Sociedad, Celta Vigo etc, and Man Utd play Celtic? It doesnt sound the same to me
'The great fallacy is that the game is first and last about winning. It's nothing of the kind. The game is about glory. It's about doing things in style, with a flourish, about going out and beating the other lot, not waiting for them to die of boredom.' - Danny Blanchflower
Apart from Inter Celtic are probably on a par if not better than those sides......
Even we are playing Inter Milan.
Celtic are in a league were there is only another two clubs at most to play against, so i dont see how you could possibly believe Celtic are in the mould of teams like Borussia.
I wasnt aware Milan were playing Man U as well, home or away?

I don't think Man U are....However seeing as Super_horns is a Watford fan (the clue is in the name!!!!), then I think they meant the only Premier club in Herts. Back on topic with this thread's title.... There are a lot of big names involved in pre-season friendlies...but I believe what Norwich was alluding to was that Celtic Vs Man U will be on telly, much as the Everton game was against the Hoops, yesterday. And I'm all up for it being every bit as much of a yawn fest!
The past is history...The future a mystery. This moment is a gift...That's why it's the present.
I hate friendlies, and I would never pay my hard earned money to watch one. I appreciate that they are a necessity to blood new players, but as a spectacle they are a no-go for me

They are only used for match fitness and are not near the quality of a premiership game, however last season i watched us play Porto and this season i will be watching us play Inter Milan, its a good occassion, where we can see our new players first home game.

Here we go again.. token Man Utd basher at it again..
As Gordon Strachan said, "It just goes to prove their reserve side is better than our reserve side". This sums up perfectly what I dislike about these friendlies.
And I liked C5's attempted hype when the fawning old drunk Lou Macari was going on qabout a special, electric atmosphere at Celtic Park. As only 2 sides of the ground were occupied, no-one behind the goals and the players running out to polite clapping. I only caught glimpses of the game, so I could be wrong

Sounds like sour grapes to me. I watched the whole game (of course) and it was a total walkover.. the score could have gone into double figures.. (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration) I wouldn't go as far as to say their team was completely reserves either.
Great to see decent passing and potential from the Man Utd reserves/up-and-comings...

Dortmund is the only one that would appeal to me. It's the only one more exciting than playing Celtic. If you had met Celtic's fabulous fans you would understand why.
Capitalism is not dead (malheureusment) It just smells funny.
Well said Crosstown Traffic, lets face it the game was probably arranged as part of the deal for Roy Keanes testimonial. It's always good to have a pre season game against the old firm, Celtic and Rangers bring thousands down for testimonials.
A few points:
Celtic fans are worried about the state of the side.
As Andy said meaningless friendlies are not appealing to most fans unless a big signing is making a first appearance, hence the poor turnout.
From Man U's point of view it was a useful excersice, a few of the kids looked good and Scholes showed he can still perform.

So what you are saying is the friendly was meaningless, but only for Celtic, funnily enough, the team the got a pasting? Yet is was helpful for United to see their younger players?! It should have exactly the same point for both teams. What BS.

No, what I'm saying is from a supporters point of view it was meaningless.
It might have been a useful exercise for Celtic in that they may have gained a little match fitness but there ws no positives too take from their display.

As a supporter, i don't think it was totally meaningless, it showed what potential talent was yet to come through. Many positives from a Man Utd supporters point of view.
