Because he's a pub standard footballer and has no place in the international side. Still a bit harsh though.

Because they don't think he deserves a place in the England squad at the moment. On recent performances I agree with them. The trouble is the only way a crowd can display any dissatisfaction is to boo. Players are happy to take the cheers, it seems to me a recent thing to chastise any kind of negative noise from supporters. Sometimes it makes a player put in more effort and managers listen. In the days of terracing it would have been a lot worse.

To most people, he is the talisman England's sub-standard and mediocre performances. It's obvious to most observers that he and Gerrard can't play together, yet that absurd Brian Woolnough said this on the Sunday Supplement last week as if he'd just discovered this and was brand new news. And I couldn't believe that Lawrenson said that, for the Russia game, Barry should go to right back and Fat Frank should play centre-mid. "Needs must". Hello? Baines? Bridge? England look balanced for the first time since FL and SG have been picked together, something even Lawrenson has touched upon, and this is suggested?

You've also got to take into account how much it costs to get into football games these days. If you've paid £50 to watch your team, you have every right to demand they play to the best of their ability. If they don't, and you want to boo, you have every right to boo

Yes its the Lawrenson comments that are exactly the reason. We dont want Barry moved out thankyou very much. Dont you mean left back Andy?

Well deserve or not they have been playing well recently. Its been the midfield that has been the big problem for England recently and none of the other players are being brought back into the team. A lot of us didnt really want Heskey back either but we gave him the benefit of doubt and he played well.

It is ridiculous to boo the player, as if that is going to improve his performance. If these so called England fans had the good of the team at heart you do not boo a player from your own side in a very important game, which will also affect the other players. McClaren and Venables have decided he is the best man on the day. You dont expect any player to say " excuse me boss I dont think Im good enough for the team".

Does it not depend on the mental strength of the player. Some players may here the booing and lose confidence, others may hear it and think "Right, i'll show you lot" and up their game, it may not always be a bad thing, and as has been said before, the fans have a right to have their say if they pay to watch the team.

Fans have every right to boo players when they're not performing. Lampard has been rightfully booed before but on this occasion I found it ludicurous. He got booed before even entering the pitch, this doesn't say "Hey I've paid my fee to get in and because you're rubbish I'm now going to boo you!". Such booing suggests some type of deeper disliking of the player that goes beyond the football field, hence the Fat Frank jibes. I'm not defending Lamapard's past England performances just the fact that it's idiotic to boo a player before he's even touched the ball. My gues is that a few morons start it and the rest of the braindead in the crowd just follow.
ST, when you talk of players and their reaction to booing. I think when you're being booed by the opposition like Ronaldo was all season and even Beckham has been in the past, it's easier to react positively. It's quite different when you're being booed by your own national side.

Fair point, trouble is theres no way of stopping it though is there. Frank's just going to have to tough it out. If the crowd want to boo him they can. Personally i would always boo Lucas Neill because of when he broke Carra's leg with a shocking tackle, maybe i should get over it, but i dont want to, . Everyone probably has their own reasons for booing someone, although like you say maybe with Lampard there is a sheep mentality to follow those few who boo him first.

Lampard will never be able to up his game as long as he and Gerrard are playing in the same team together. If Gerrard isn't playing, maybe we'll see a different side to Lampard as he will be able to play a more natural, attacking game. It's certainly helped Gerrard of late

I think there is a perfect way of getting the best out of both Lampard and Gerard, it involves playing a diamond with Barry at the base, Lampard and Gerrard just ahead and Joe Cole at the tip. But our fascination with wingers in this country would never allow this to happen.

Which is bizarre when you consider our first choice strikers are probably Rooney and Owen, and neither are much use at heading the ball!!!

Well exactly. I can't count the number of times pundits talk about wingers getting to the byline and crossing as it's the only way of scoring. When in truth as you say we have midgets up front, J Cole always drifts in field, and SWP is rubbish at crossing anyway. I'd say the solution would be to get rid of SWP and bring in Lampard. The pyramid formation would be 4-1-2-1-2 or 4-1-2-2-1 (if you want both Cole and Rooney lying deep behind Owen). This way you'd get more out of Gerard and Lampard since they'd have Barry covering for them and J Cole -who I don't think will ever be used properly in this country- wouldn't have to be stuck out wide.
