i guess he is just such a talent it's a difficult call......opinions are divided.

Ex pros always come up with that one. I cant see how being stopped from swearing and answering back to referees is going to affect your game. Brian Clough used to fine any player that argued with a referees decision, it didnt affect Stuart Pearce did it! The same excuses were made for Gascoigne and look what happened to him.

hi capt!!! xxxxxx......think its more to do with the way he reacts if a decision goes against him...he gets fired up and goes hurtling into a challenge......although the swearing/petulance came into it.

interesting you made a comparison to gascoigne......i was wondering if rooney would end up going the same way?????.........would be a hell of a loss of talent if it were to be the outcome.

Hi spongeee Smile

The swearing and petulance add to his sense of 'injustice'. If he didnt do that so much he wouldnt get himself so wound up IMO.

Paul Scholes was the first player to be sent off on English soil playing for England. He gets away with it in the premiership though, English players in the top sides often do. There have been a whole host of English players recently that could be wound up and got carded which does affect how they play especially if they are booked early in an international.

I'll list some though i am sure people could add to it.
Alan Smith (the one of leeds now MU)
Gascoigne
Rooney
LeSaux
Batty
Beckham
Scholes
Ince

I also nicked this quote from England Online
quote:
Apparently England's fair play record means very little to most of the current crop of players. Nearly all the yellow card offences--including those that resulted in expulsion--were entirely unnecessary as a tactical matter. They usually occurred in neutral territory far from the danger zone. The fact that the closest England came to a card-free Euro 2000 qualifying game was the match against Luxembourg suggests that the problem arises when England face talented opposition. The more difficult the opposition, the more England's players resort to fouling and unsportsmanlike conduct. The problem reflects not only of lack of discipline--and lack of maturity--but also the team's poor performances. These players know they are not performing up to their capabilities, and they continually vent their frustration on the pitch. Strong leadership should go a long way to resolving the problem, and for that we must look first to the manager and second to the captain.

Its a bit out of date but its as true today as it was then.

100% Players like Rooney and Beckham, get frustrated by the half hearted mediocraty around them, and end up trying to do other players jobs, as well as their own. That is what makes them wild on the pitch. A bit more passion from other players wouldn't go amiss. I wouldn't change them one iota.

How old is Rooney now?

His still got that temper, even his tm Neville had a laugh at him when he was p-ed off at being subbed.

He can get away with it playing in England during this WC especially, no chance

He's passionate he has fire but still tempestuous

How can you stick up for players who go mad at the slighest decision against them? They are supposed to be professionals.

Beckham goes looking for the foul every time he doesn`t get a free kick he thinks he should have won. Rooney is no differnent.

I think Rooney is a talented player, and I can understand he was getting frustrated, but part of being a footballer is to control your anger and frustartion, because they're not always gonna get their way. What Rooney did yday was uncalled for and was immature, and perhaps ruined England's chances. Has no one learnt from when Beckham got sent off? I think he needs to grow up a bit and get some anger management.

well you shouldn't take credit for it because it wasn't even funny in the first place, a type of line that a 5year old would come out with
