I can now reveal that this morning I was listening to TalkSport. I don't understand why people always jump on the "Everyone hates us!" bandwagon. Unless Platini was being ironic, he's wrong. That's it.
I say again unto you. Football is part of the wider market economy.
Capitalism is not dead (malheureusment) It just smells funny.
He's not having a go at English clubs as much as the people buying into them.
What's he supposed to do?
Parrot the deluded "all is well with English football" and the "England's a great nation with a team full of world class players" line that so many people at home fool themselves with?
Really, why is anyone questioning this? Recent performances and related facts (eg. inability to find an English coach) speak for themselves.

Platini has to buy into the fact that football is evolving within a global market economy. I'm afraid that all is well with English Football. It reigns supreme. Alas! All is not well with the England national team, but surely one follows the other. Until the fans of the larger teams say, "Hang on we can't keep going down this road!" or something catastrophic occurs, the current sutuation will continue. This is the football market economy that those of us in the Fanzine culture warned you about way back when. Of course no-one listened to us.

I've got to say, I do agree with Platini. He was probably asked about the situation, rather than just coming out with it of his own volition, and he's entitled to his opinion. Of course, as President of UEFA, his opinion is probably going to carry more influence than most. But, due to the "greed-is-good" attitude of English club football, he will be ignored as there's nothing in law that says these clubs can't buy whoever they want, and the top 2 clubs here can pretty much afford just about any player they want, and probably out-bid any club in the world in the process. It would be down to the player who he goes to, in the case of Ronaldo who would like to go to Real Madrid rather than any other club, even though United have made him into the player he is today. A nice touch.
As long as the TV companies keep pumping billions into the game and the grounds continue to be full, the current situation will not change

Not just Platini. Beckenbauer did it last year after the friendly with Germany. Lehmann has also done it. No doubt many others have too.
But English football doesn't believe that these highly respected football achievers might just have a point.
At best, they bury their heads in the sand. Worse, they write it off as the jealous ramblings of anti-English people.
They don't have a valid point beyond what we predicted all those years ago. The game is awash with money. It is driven by market forces. You can't buck the market. As long as people believe the hype and continue to consume then the system will continue. Wait until that bubble bursts. Meanwhile I will still be able to pay less than a tenner to watch Hannover 96 play Schalke 04.
(Other bundesliga teams are available)

Interesting article on the back page of Grauniad sport today. Simon Hattenstone has declared that he and City are finished after 34 years. If only more people would take this stand.

I would have more respect for Platini had he not whored himself off to the highest bidder when he was a player himself and condones other leagues buying up every player left right and centre.
Truth is that UEFA is deadly scared at the power , money and influence worldwide that the Premier league wields with the number of international players involved in it and the fact that they arent as dependant on UEFA as other countries. If they threw us out of Europe again it would lead to a breakaway organisation for european competitions IMO and that makes people at FIFA and UEFA both very scared of the English league because there is very little they can threaten them with now. The result is that they try and preach from their moral high horses which is laughable considering the behaviour of UEFA, FIFA and their representatives themselves.
As usual the real game of football, which none of them give a damn about is squashed between this political manoeuvring. If they did court cases like Bosman would never have had to come about. Common sense and a bit of decency would have seen him allowed to transfer before he needed to look up a lawyer.

That political manouevering is also caused by G14 and this new organisation which isn't G14, but has the same clubs, but also others which had tried to join G14. They don't really give a fig about the game either, just protecting their interests.
Also, who'd have thought football would have been turned on its head by a bitter, third rate Belgian player?

Yea so true was going to be G50 wasnt it?
I would have been bitter too if my third rate career was brought to an end because I was "owned" by a club that asked for too high a transfer fee and no longer paid me a wage or employed me.
