Ultimately this will have a negative effect on our national team. I know it has been said before, but i think already we are seeing the first signs. Even before our 'golden era' we seemed to have far more strikers to chose from. Now it seems that one gets injured and we are scratching around for players who can't even command a regular place for their club side. The situation is only going to get worse. What do other people think?
I don't think it is that bad, we just need our best strikers playing at the so called highest level ''the champions league'', Owen is statistically our number 1 striker but he plays for Newcastle who do not offer CL football. We have alot of good young players probably more now than ever in the last 10 years.
22 english players will play for Boro at some point this season most of which are boro born and bread.
What would really make a difference to England would be if there were more English players prepared to get experience in Spain, Germany and Italy and for that not to be viewed so negatively by press and fans. If they are good enough there are plenty of teams that would give them good experience at CL level.
As soon as a player starts playing in another league though he becomes rubbish no matter how they play. See Hargreaves and Beckham for examples. Until we rethink certain attitudes England will not move forward.

That's also something of note. There are so many foreigners playing in the Premiership and other British leagues yet there are hardly any British players playing abroad in other leagues. In fact i can only think of Beckham and Hargreaves.
As I always like to say. It's all part of yer market economy. Just the same way as you prefer to shop at the Morrisons in the next big town rather than locally. Unless the Thatcherite Blair is going to bring back state interference later on, expect more of the same. The Market Economy does not understand concepts like a strong England team
English players don't move abroad because they are as I said too expensive and also because the premiership is widely regarded as one of the top leagues so they see no reason to move abroad, it is the same with the other top leagues, I think Italy's world cup winning squad was more a less made up of players playing in Italy but the French squad very few of them still play in France certainly their best players don't. So I don't really think there is any disadvantages for our players staying in England or playing abroad.
