Sunday 14th October 2007, Villa Park!

A rematch of the 1986 WC quarter-final, between England & Argentina. Big Grin

Both teams will have all the original squad members, inclduding Mr Maradona in his FINAL game ever!!!! Cool

Let's just hope that the England players don't mistake Maradona for the ball (especially Terry Butcher Red Face)!!!!

You reckon that Butcher will get anywhere near Maradona? Didn't manage it in the 1986 game.

By the way, is this being covered on Sky? Seems the kind of nouveau thing they'd get up to. And fronted by the weak Helen Chamberlain (since Lovejoy left Soccer AM, she's really being shown up for the talentless, know-nothing-about-the-game person she really is

Are Ralph Little, that bloke from So Solid Crew and Robbie Williams' "friend" playing? They seem to make it onto every other 'celebrity' game Sky cover

You say that like lovejoy knows something about the game. Lovejoy is now being shown up to be the talentless desperate presenter that he is presenting the US MLS football show which is something he ridiculed and took the pee out of for years. The only thing that would have completed his humiliation would be if he presented the womens world cup as well (or monkey tennis).

I am not a great fan of Soccer AM now and i know its not as funny its not just Lovejoy thats left its gone on too long. It was just as bad when he replaced Helen on it a few years back. At least Helen can name a team outside the premiership/championship and doesnt pretend to be a chelsea fan.

Granted, Capt, I'm not a big Lovejoy fan either (Ian McShane was a far better Lovejoy than Tim! Big Grin), but this show is weak, and has been for a while now. It used to be essential viewing on a Saturday morning before you go off to a game, but now it's just a sad shadow of what it was and the same irritating guests (Neil Ruddock, Jason McAteer and Paddy McGuiness being the most irritating) are on seemingly all the time.

I have to disagree with you, Capt, about the Helen Chamberlain knowledge thing. She's very weak on that and does not strike me as having been a fan for very long. Certainly not before the programme ever started and the whole thing seems like the presenters are asked to pick a side after they are chosen to present the show. Tim Lovejoy doesn't seem to be able to decide if he's a Chelsea fan or a 'Glory Hornets' fan, and he doesn't even know the words to the Pompey chimes (one of the most famous chants in football)!

These programmes are becoming very Roger Nouveau and Sky are probably the biggest culprits for this

it is, it neds to be put out of it's misery. the funniest people on the show were the crew, and the funnier ones of them (Fenners and Sheephead) have gone to join Lovejoy on C5 and carry him again.

Now soccer AM is left with Rocket and Baby Elvis. Hardly Ant and Dec, are they?

In her defence, Hells Bells has picked up more than her fair shair of speeding tickets rushing to get to Torquay games after Soccer AM...not heard of Lovejoy getting any...
But then seeing as she drinks pints, drives a jag, and hosts a football show, I'm bound to have a soft spot for her! If only she'd drop the veggie thing!

A rematch of the 1986 World Cup quarterfinal between England and Argentina scheduled for next week has been postponed because organizers were worried that a strike by postal workers would affect ticket sales.

The game at Villa Park in Birmingham on Oct. 14 was being staged to raise money for various charities and was advertised as a chance for England to avenge the 2-1 quarterfinal defeat in which Diego Maradona scored two of soccer's most famous goals.

Organizers decided to postpone the game, most likely until February, because a 48-hour strike that started Thursday and another starting Monday would make delivery of tickets impossible to guarantee. Tickets were being sold online, and then mailed to buyers.

'We even thought about going back to cash turnstiles, going back to the 70s,' organizer James Williamson said.

'That might be fine for a couple of thousand people, but not for such a big crowd.

'There's health and safety issues.'

Williamson said 17 or 18 of the 22 players who started the quarterfinal in Mexico City had agreed to play, including Maradona, and all were committed to taking part in the rescheduled match.

Maradona punched in the match's first goal - and then dubbed it the "Hand of God" - before dribbling half the length of the field and beating half the England players to score what is regularly voted the best goal in soccer history.

Argentina, with the likes of Jorge Burruchaga, Jorge Valdano and Oscar Ruggeri, went on to beat West Germany 3-2 in the final for its second World Cup title.

Maradona had been joined by players including former England captain Bryan Robson, Glenn Hoddle, Chris Waddle, Peter Reid and Ray Wilkins in confirming their participation.

Gary Lineker, who scored England's lone goal to finish top scorer at the 1986 World Cup with six, was unable to play but had agreed to take the first kick of the match.
