Do you? Out to prove his critics wrong, but will he?

Quote of the day coming from McClaren himself -"Stewart's balls were quality balls".. Ninja

Nice quote!

If Downing has the ineffective game he had on saturday tonight, he'll have to drop him. He may have no choice though, with Cole coming back

Im not sold on Downing. I would prefer to see Walcott on the left and Lennon on the right ...but i am blindingly biased in this.

I think Richardson's a better option in the absence of Cole.

All managers have their faves.

Picking Downing & Neville could be considered the same kind of inter-breeding as Erik and Beckham.

Give him a chance, its only his 3rd start for England how long did it take Joe Cole to bed in for England.
Lampard is England's biggest under performer his distribution is woeful, Downing has done ok for England so far on his first start against Greece he set up 3 goals and he has put some good balls in, everyone forgets the wicked ball he put in only for broom stick Crouch to cock it up.
Downing will be good for England once he is used to playing with these players and once the players around him start to play better, it appears the likes of Lampard appear to be regal .

I agree, Feeder, but with Joe Cole likely to be fit for the next game, Downing had to be outstanding in the games he had. Unfortunately, he wasn't, so Cole will step straight back into the team.

But, unlike Eriksson before him, he has picked a natural wide left player who now has experience of playing for the full team

Thought Downing and Defoe were pretty average.

Downing can hardly play well for the Smoggies let alone England.
