Carrick is now as much as gone, his registration has been handed over, it is just down to his personnal terms. I dont think selling him to Man U was a good idea, however i am surprised at the fee, it is now on the Spurs website, he went for £18.6m, that was good business, if he had to go try and get as much as possible, and we did.

Man Utd have got themselves the best midfielder in the country, and he will only get better, i think he will take Man U back to the top, they need no help up front or in defence, but they needed help linking the two, Carrick is that man, but dont expect goals, he gets a nose bleed to near the goal Big Grin
Good luck Carrick.

Its up to 18.6 mill. Sounds like the Reyes deal so it could be 18.6 maximum if he plays so many times for them and they win the CL and the league etc.

Still will be a high price though.

He's a decent player but I think they've paid well over the odds. It's a better deal for Spurs for me.

A mate of mine who's a United fan said £10m over the odds, which is probably about right

Thaat depends how you look at it, he only cost us £2.75m so we made a packet, but if you think that he is the best passer in the Premiership, has a great vision, he can see his next pass before he gets the ball, and can split a team open with a pass, and almost got us into the CL last season(which they say gains a team £10m), it is a bad deal.

Spurs fans are split over Carrick, defensively he is good, spotting a pass he is excellent, going forward, he needs a kick to do so, but when he does he is usually dangerous.
Many Spurs fans believe he holds the team back, and have done all the time he has been at Spurs.
I went to Spurs yesterday and at times our attacking through midfield was excellent against Inter Milan(something we missed with Carrick in the team), but Berbatov would of loved Carricks passes and maybe made him a better player in England. We have Huddlestone who many believe is going to be a better player than Carrick, time will tell, he needs a couple of years experience in the Premiership first, he did well standing in for Carrick last season, he is built like a brick sh1t 'ouse.
I feel we will miss Carrick alot, but Carrick is a player your team must be good enough to play anyway, because you will loose something in one way, but really gain in another.

I think the carrick sale proves just how costly not getting into the CL is for Spurs. If they did make it I don't think he would have left and plus Spurs wouldn't have needed the money as such.

The money isnt an issue anymore, not since Levy took over. Jol wanted to keep Carrick, he was offered a good deal, but wanted CL and thought Man Utd was a good option for him. So Levy pushed and pushed to raise the price. Jol said he wished him well, but didnt want any player at Spurs who wasnt 100% for Spurs.

This is what i dont get about Wigan, Arsenal(Cole), or any other club who keeps a player at their club when they are unhappy. Why keep a player who doesnt want to play for you?

It takes a while to sell a player wots and theres no reason to lose a few million on a hasty sale. You should know as Carrick has been unsettled since before the world cup. At the end of the day they will still play for their win bonuses and fight for their appearance bonuses especially the more mercenary. Its real life not championship manager, they are all profesionals and know if they play badly then they wont be attracting the clubs they want to go to.

We have been guilty in the past of making a player sweat it out on the bench though (wiltord and pires comes to mind). If you dont make a stand sometimes there is little point making a player sign a contract if you are just going to say oh yes just go for any fee we dont care.

But how can you feel good about a player who is at your club, knowing he wants to play elsewhere? He would be jeered at all the time at the Lane, just as Jermaine Defoe was at West Ham. Fans dont care about a players career, only that they will bleed for your club, if they want elsewhere let them go, fans only want a player who loves his club. Apart from that there is the bad feeling he causes if he is not happy.

Carrick was happy at Spurs and loved being there, he left for CL and his future, had we of got to the CL he would still be a Spurs player, he has said he was happy, loved working under Jol, and one of his best mates from West Ham.

Most of the fans dont feel good about it Wots. Ask any arsenal fan and they would help kick cashley (just google cashley cole and you will see the feeling out there) out the door.

We dont want him going cheap to chelski though....does that answer the question?

Cashley grew up a fan of arsenal, loved the club and has allowed another rival london club and money to change that. Shows players seem to be different animals to us Wots or Carrick would have signed another contract with the spuds as well.

Bring back the days of Gary Mabbutt, he was a professional and loyal, and when Man Utd came knocking for him, he told them to get lost. He is a legend at the Lane and would of been a massive name at Utd as well, but he loved his club and was loyal.

Personally i dont get a player who would rather go to a club who is big already, than stick at a club and help build them up, surely a player would get a bigger kick out of that, than picking up a medal you have no right to, as you never faught to get it in the first place. Look at players like Dixon and Winterbottom, they were nobodies, went to Arsenal and helped build a fantastic defence, they deserved everything they achieved(even though it sickens me Wink), they also knew loyalty, and would not of dreamed of putting on a Spurs shirt.

Thats true but maybe wimbledon wouldnt share your views about winterburns loyalties or stoke dixons. Better examples would have been Charlie george, Keown or Adams.

Just brings it home more what we will be missing in Bergkamp who has been totally loyal to the club from the minute he joined to the day he left and he is supposed to be the mecenary foreigner.

I cant stand Keown, to dirty. But Adams is different. Bergkamp has been a great servant to Arsenal, and what a career.

Carrick has thanked Spurs, and has thanked Jol in particular in making him into the player he has become, he has said that we have great players and our club will be going places. Its good to hear good things from players after they leave a club, than all these players who keep calling their previous club and past managers.

Over priced and over rated, best midfielder in the country you are having a laugh.
United would have been better off with Mascherano or Viera for a defensive midfielder and Riquelme for attacking midfielder, but fairplay to Spurs that is one of the all time great robberies.

Only time will tell, he will never have the strength of Roy Keane, or the talent of Glenn Hoddle, but he is an exception talent.

What i cant understand is Fergie, he says he has been watching him for years now, so why not sign him up as a lad, like he did with Beckham from Spurs, or when he was leaving West Ham?
Carrick admits himself that he would not be at the level he is now if it wasnt for Jol, but if Fergie saw his talent, why not bid £2.8m then, instead of £18.6m now?

Nothings ever straight forward with Fergie. I think he even knows that was too much money. Probably gutted at having not signed him earlier.

I said the same when we signed Rio, he took a while to get going. Payed well over the odds for him, regardless of what he's done since.

Good news for Spurs, when we bought Carrick from West Ham he only had a few months left on his contract, so part of the agreement was that Spurs would not sign a sell on clause, which means we keep ALL of the £15.85m profit made on him(still would of preferred Carrick though)
