I see the previous thread dedicated to the Rossoblu had drifted from the forum's history many moons ago. Well, for those of us who care, it's back!!!
But we return in somewhat subdued circumstances. Yesterday's showing at basement boys Bergamo was pants! Mazzone has done well this season but is the pensioner really the future of the club? May as well have held on to Guidolin, I thought the treatment of him was slightly harsh when he was effectively forced out 18 months ago.
I agree completely about Guidolin - surely he was the future of the club rather than competent but unexciting Mazzone ? Bologna have to aim to be on a par with Samp / Udinese rather than be content with mid-table or avoiding relegation.
It'd be nice to welcome Brescia to the Dall'Ara but expect a 0-0 or 1-1 draw looking at the goals for and against column of both teams. We may as well hang on to Carlo until the summer because he's done OK but we haven't made any progress. We're a financially stable club who had a tight defence under Guidolin only now we're without Zaccardo. Things would be bleak if it weren't for Meghni. I can't complain too much because I see the dangerous plight of so many other teams but when Udinese and Samp are similar to us, why can't we be in the next echelon? Doesn't look like a natural successor to Mazzone either. He's part of the Lippi/Capello/Sacchi/Trapattoni era. What we need is a Spaletti or Del Neri.
Given the finance, history and size of the club, there is no reason why we shouldn't be in that second group - Parma, Atalanta, Samp, Udinese, Chievo and Fiorentina have all had their turn in that role - it takes an adventurous coach, and a tight, hard working defence and midfield. On the plus side, the Rossblu are nearly there - but the squad size and depth quality is a problem. For me, the addition of Legrottaglie is certainly a step in the right direction. Considering the double loss of Cruz and Signori, life could be worse.

We'd settle for that !!! 8 times we have been to watch the Rondinelle - never seen a win yet so the omens will be good for you
My Friend in italy is a bologna Fan - good luck to you guys - now it's time i wnet and talked to myslef again in order to keep the brescia thread alive
Siamo Brescia Siamo Brescia Siamo tifosi di Bresia Inghilterra
Chuckie, I think Tare is an important player for Bologna. He'll never be great but he cost little in fees, isn't a top earner and can guarantee a certain level of performance. Pound-for-pound, he's much more useful than Cipriani but worryingly a lot older.
On a different note, I just think Serie A is in a bit of a trough. If the board showed a bit of ambition in the summer then I could see us heading for Europe on a consistent basis. A foundation needs to be built (like at Spurs) where we have bright young players and a team centred around Locatelli and Meghni.
My parents are in town for the Livorno game this weekend. I know my Dad's been looking forwards to it especially seeing as his Dad had a spell at Bologna in the early 1940s. It's a game we really need to win because I just think Brescia are due something at the Dall'Ara.
Garbage today by all accounts. Life is tough when you're without Meghni but Tare can't be expected to do it all on his own up top. A very disappointing day, two points dropped. My Dad will not have been pleased.
That really is a good result against Udinese. Udinese would have probably got at last a point from the game if it were not for the fantastic Pagliuca. He must be about 38 years old now but he is still going strong and is one of the best keepers in the league.

Yep, 38 and going strong! He did save the Rossoblu today, it was 85 minutes of backs to the wall with a second string team. So sad that we can win at Milan and in Udine but lose to Atalanta - a frustration above many.
Yes consistency does seem to be a problem, although another major problem seems to be injuries. However for a mid table side Bologna seem to have incredible strength in depth to cope. I mean in attacking positions alone there is Meghni,Locatelli,Bellucci,Cipriani,Tare and Della Rocca.
We do just about cope but with the quality of personnel that you have listed, we have scored a disappointing 27 goals in 27 games. Who is to blame? Mazzone? The players? Still, I can't really complain, we've had a good day today and they don't come about often!
I think it must be more to do with tactics as at various times I have seen the first 4 I mentioned play some delightful football, although I suppose none of them could be classed as clinical which could also play its part.

No, no, it's ok as you raised some valid points in your previous post. None of our guys are clinical, Tare and Cipriani are target men but not in the same league as, say, Adriano. It surprises me little that we're sniffing around Julio Cruz again. I think he's a good player but heroic returns never materialise. Someone in the same mould would be nice, for example, Zalayeta from Juve.
