Gio has a point - the first world war did end some time ago. The reason for the licencing laws wasn't to prevent anti-social behaviour but to ensure that workers couldn't spend the afternoon in the pub instead of making shells (the fact that being tanked up when handling explosives is inadvisable also had a part to play).
Problem is, if someone was tanked up and anti-social in that era, the local constabulary appeared rapidly and dealt with the miscreant (usually by delivering a good kicking somewhere down a darkened alleyway). Doesn't happen now.
Also, the gun laws were different then, so a drunken lout taking a quick slash on your front lawn ran the risk of having his day ruined by a shotgun.
I'm not advocating that anyone who can demonstrate having an IQ above 110 should be allowed to possess assault rifles and duly 'blat away' at passing chav drunkards as part of a civic duty to reduce anti-social behaviour, of course - but the thought is mildly tempting...

As is often the case with these things, the novelty of late-night drinking will be in evidence and I expect things to get worse before they get better. After a while, however, I expect no change to the current predicament (for better or for worse). I've always thought that it should be at the discretion of the landlord/lady and how long he/she can be bothered to stay open.

Im loving the new licencing laws - i can now watch the best of the tv, have some dinner and go out at about 11pm Marvellous On the spirit of the thread though, im not loving leaving my car 30mins walk from uni so that i could 'get some exercise' Its as cold as outside and i dont now want to go back to it Bloody exercise

Ditto. After a nice meal, it's irritating to only have until elevenish to have a quiet drink. It is, however inevitable that Kevin and Sharon will drink themselves into oblivion on Alcopops and Vodka shots. You need to take the rough with the smooth I guess.

Parental VisitsMy dear old Mother is coming down from Scotland next weekend. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but her last evening down here will be on the Sunday and I don't think she'll be interested in watching Fiorentina's game at Roma live on Bravo. This is becoming a bad habit. I missed Juve's visit to the Artemio Franchi earlier this year because I had commited to a crap party

You could say you have to watch the game for work-related research...

I'm quite upset with early mornings. I have to be at work for 8.00, and don't finish until 5.00. Include a 1 hour journey on the M4 every morning and you have a very upset Delboy. Seems my dream of working in film has evaporated - Slowly waking up to the fact that i will be working until i'm 60, still paying a mortgage on a 2 bedroom dive thats falling apart around me, gradually forgetting what day looks like....

Interesting... however, I think my footy watching privileges will have been used up earlier in the day due to watching Man United's game at West Ham. I'm assuming the Roma v Fiorentina game will be repeated at some point, but it'll probably be at 4:00am on Tuesday morning This wouldn't be so bad if Fiorentina v Juventus was next week's live game, but for some bizarre reason, Bravo are going to Lecce...

Typical bravo - how come they made an exception a few weeks back for the Juve-Milan game ? Surely this ranks just as high, if not higher, given the history ?

Dropping a fridge-freezer on my arm whilst carrying it up metal steps on Monday and still not being able to properly feel my elbow. Had tingles in my elbow for 4 days now!!!

Cardiff's pavements and their slippy leaves. I'm going to go proper over one day, I think the next time I slip, I'm going to try and regain my balance and recover with a bit of electric boogaloo. I wish I had some sort of little sound machine that makes the sort of sounds you hear on cartoon when someone slips on a banana skin, or when someone falls (phwip boing!), people would probably take exception and hit me but it'd be worth it

Meh is the most accurate answer right now. Mum's been ill lately so I've taking care of her. Trying to deal with a load of other family drama too. How about you ?
