can anyone remind me as to who the Japanese Genoa player was in the early(pre C4) 90s was please.I believe he hardly played and think he was there season 90-91
The first Japanese player to really gain a significant profile overseas was Kazu Miura, who quit high school at the age of 17 to try his skills in Brazil. Kazu managed to appear in a few league matches during his two years in Brazil, with FC Santos. Though his success on the football field was modest at best, he was a relentless self-promoter, and playing overseas allowed him to raise his profile greatly. Upon his return to Japan he was hailed as one of the big stars of the nascent J.League. Later in his career, Kazu would go on to play for Genoa, in Italy, and Dinamo Zagreb, in Croatia. Though he was never particularly successful, the mere fact that he had appeared in overseas teams earned him a reputation that exceeded his true footballing abilities.
Nakata is not the first Japanese player to reach the Italian leagues. Kazu Miura, a striker with the Japanese national team, spent the 1994-95 season with Genoa.
