Cool
Ciao tutti,

Remember my email last week when I said in soccer, NEVER talk to fast. Well, as Jeff Goldblum said in Jurassic Park 1 when they were stuck in the jeep and the T-Rex was set loose; "boy, I hate it when i'm always right".

The two disasters for Italian soccer this season and rightly so, Juve and Inter. (the latter which I can't stand).

Capello states yesterday that "Be Prepared For Something Exceptional. We can make it, we are convinced we can do something exceptional".

Mancini is a carbon copy of the "old school" coaching in Italy in the sense of formation-the old defensive/counter attack 4-4-2. Look what that has won Italy and Argentina in the last 5 to 6 major tournaments at the senior level. Nothing, or as the English would say, nill. Two of the worlds strongest nations in soccer and that has brought them nothing whereas, the brazilians though in truth, not #1 up front in depth as compared to Italy and Argentina, are always successful due to their attack mentality. For Inter and Juve, what did Mancini and Capello do? the old crap 4-4-2 system. This is of little little success. Great in the 80's and early 90's but, now the young guys are much more faster and stronger and skilled (look at some of the young Italian guns). Milan plays the similar style but, that has been part of their early struggles this year as last year they played the 3-4-1-2 or 3-4-2-1 quite a lot with much success (even though Juve won in Italy but, I think Milan was going for the champions more so last year) Inter just stinks cohesion wise. They can never win with the lousy group they've assembled. Like Sinden for the boston bruins of the hockey world, Moratti and his co-staff/supporters have to go. One other big difference though Milan has which Juve doesn't in that 4-4-2 set up, Veira and Emerson are midfielders, whereas Pirlo was a natural forward. So, it's as having a third forward behind you. Why do you think that the international team is much better off now with Pirlo behind Totti under Lippi's rule? where trappatoni wouldn't set them up together when he ran the team.

A great example is the olympics from two years ago when the under 21's were doing great with the 3 man attack and, they were to meet Argentina in the finals. So, what does the coach do? He reverts to 5 midfielders and Gilardino up front all alone. Typical panic. What did that bring? Failure. They were blown out. They should have matched offence with offence. THAT'S THE NEW SOCCER OF SUCCESS.

Tacchinardi's swipe at Capello this week say's it all:
"He never makes a change, not even when they're struggling. The fact that against Treviso Emerson and Vieira played, to me seems typical. The trainer makes the decisions, but then he must assume the responsibility for when it goes wrong."

I've said many times in the past that, it would be a disaster for Capello to take over the national team as, he'd be just another Giovanni Trapattoni. Let's hope he stays at Juve or goes off to Spain or England and stays away from the national squad.

P.s. as i've also said in the past, Ibrahimovic and Trezeguet CANNOT play together. They are both too one dimensional, just like vieri / ronaldo and vieri / adriano.

My final words,
FORZA ROMA.
ciao ciao,
Romanista cento %

Wink

"brazilians though in truth, not #1 up front in depth as compared to Italy and Argentina"
Really?
Since their 2002 success, they've been able to call on:
  • Ronaldo
  • Ronaldinho
  • Rivaldo
  • Adriano
  • Kaka
  • Robinho
  • Baptista
  • Alex
  • Ricardinho
  • Juninho (if you count him as attacking)

And I've probably missed out a couple.

Italy have some great forwards, but no-one can compete with Brazil's attacking depth.

  • Ronaldo yes
  • Ronaldinho definately
  • Rivaldo NOT
  • Adriano yes
  • Kaka definately
  • Robinho yes-will be
  • Baptista kind of
  • Alex yes
  • Ricardinho yes
  • Juninho (if you count him as attacking) so so

  • have you looked at the depth of front for the argentinians and the italians lately? not that you are wrong but, either of the three nations are comparable with DEPTH up front. We could add two more lists to your list and, the list would be just as long or longer for the other two nations 'depth' wise. But remember my main point, it's the MENTALITY of the "old style" coaches like mancini, trappatoni and capello which are the obstacles of any success internationally ((be it the world cup, european cup, the champions cup or the uefa cup).

    Sorry, but this rubbish.
You imply that successful teams have fans who are knowledgable about football and that poorer teams have fans that are less knowledgable about football!

You can disagree with him, but not on the grounds that his team are not as successful as yours. Roll Eyes

    I quite agree.
A very childish reason to dismiss peoples opinions based on how sucessful their team is.
Unless of course they support Real Madrid... (just kidding)

Thank you for backing me up Phonicsdude. I've not implied anything of the matter. I'm simply trying to state in a kind of humorous manner that, the old coaching mentality in huge soccer countries like Italy and Agrentina has to change. Nothing pertaining to whom knows soccer better than another. A fan or fans from Zimbobwe might know the game better than all of us.

  • Not that this detracts from your point Michael, but isn't Alex a centre half?

He's the geezer that Chelsea bought for PSV. Allegedly.

There's that Alex, but there's also an Alex that plays for Fenerbahce, an attacking midfielder. I think he's likely to go the World Cup.
Incidentally, after looking up PSV's 'Alex', I found out that he plays alongside Michael Ball in the PSV defence? I found that quite amusing.
