Here: it is in Italian, from Livorno captain Cristiano Lucarelli.

Player Strike

In Italian, I'm afraid. But, basically, as RomaGirl says, they want season ticket holders to be allowed to attend matches. The logic in the thinking is that is some games are played behind closed doors and others not, sides will have an unfair advantage.

Latest news on Republicca is that only the following stadiums can be opened this weekend Roma, Genova, Siena, Cagliari, Torino e Palermo. This totally contrdicts what the Gazzetta and Radio Capital are saying. COnfusion reigns again. But my optimism about the San Siro being open to the public may have appeared a bit hasty.

This then could absolutely throw Milan and Inter's CL fixtures in to the melting pot. Apparently the rossoneri are in talks with Geneva and have opened up the possibility of playing there to a crowd of 30,000. Don't know about Inter's game against Valencia?

Still don't get why a Welshman is sticking up for the English? Don't know your personal circumstances . . . or your Italian team. So go on spill the beans. Smile

Yeah, we could go on forever, so we'll agree to disgree, like you said. I have no problems with that.

I have no Italian team, but I just hate the way a small section of the 'supporters' can ruin what is meant to be family entertainment. You should want to take your kids there, but I can see why so many people are afraid to.

I have been to Italy a couple of times and I have always found it to a beautiful country with wonderful people. Just a shame some cowards want to spoil it for everyone

Strike? What a ridiculous attitude. Someone should tell these pampered, overpaid prima donnas that everyone in Italian football has a responsibility to help the game overcome its current problems. These idiots certainly aren't helping

Well, they do say they want to strike TO HELP THE FANS. That way the club will cave in to pressure and lobby to allow season ticket holders into games.

There wont be a strike. Tickets are already on sale for matches this weekend. Matches will be played in Roma, Genova, Siena, Cagliari, Torino e Palermo.

Inter are looking into playing their champions league game abroad.

I was having a look at the Daily Record website yesterday and Mark Hateley (I think it was Hateley, I've had a look but can't find it now) had written an article about the way Rangers are hammered by UEFA for the songs fans sing sometimes - fines, threats to play European games behind closed doors etc. Whether someone likes the songs or not the rhyme sticks and stones... springs to my mind. There's very rarely any trouble in or around grounds in Scotland, even for the Old Firm games, the grounds are all pretty nifty all round (and safe), the Old Firm make big efforts to stamp out the sectariansim etc etc. There were tonnes of problems with the Italian game in general even before the peak of the Sicilian business - overt racism (is racism further down on the scale than sectarianism?), violence and deaths in the stands and on the pitch, cattle shed stadiums, widespread corruption and so on but UEFA (or FIFA?) never seems to come down on all this. I'm writing this because sometimes I feel Italians on here or diaspora try and turn any critiscm made of the Italian game into a bit of an Anglo-Italian slanging match - I just want to say remember Italian clubs are getting off very lightly in my opnion - all those above problems and no UEFA intervention, Rangers fans sing Follow Follow and it's the end of the world according to UEFA - comes down to dosh I suppose in the end - no Juve, no Inter, no Milan, no big sponsorship deals, a less profitable Champion's League

The strike - which was NEVER really going to happen anyway - was threatened for NEXT WEEKEND, not this weekend.

Football goes ahead: everyone hides their heads in the sand, just as everyone does every time something happens, and, yet again, we fail to take the opportunity to move football forward.

Sorry, there is UEFA intervention, Inter played behind closed doors a couple times - I guess my point is not enough though. I think the clubs should now been banned from Europe altogether - it's totally unfair on say Chievo, but then when English clubs were banned no one said well, okay Luton or Wimbledon or someone you can enter European competition

From the link you posted, it seemed to me that it was the club presidents lobbying the players.

Obviously because the clubs didn't want to loose the ticket revenue and were using their players as foot soldiers. The players are generally not able to think for themselves, naive and easily led due to their small brains so obviously players like Lucarelli don't even realise that they are been used to take the PR flak that goes with speaking out against closing the stadiums and putting safety first.

Regarding UEFA, i think they make decisions when trouble, racist songs etc. happen during their games and when trouble happens in domestic leagues it's up to the FA of that country. Generally that seems to be the way i think.

Although I agree with your comments about the state of Italian domestic football, I don't follow your logic about Europe. English teams were not banned from Europe for so many years because West Ham and Newcatsle rioted or Luton and QPR invaded a pitch. There were banned I believe for fairly consitent trouble over a number of years when English teams were on the continent. This culminated in the Heysel disaster, which rightly so was the final straw. Myles2's point about Uefa only getting involved when events happen during their games is spot on. Banning all Italian clubs from European competition because of trouble during an Italian league game is unfair. My viewpoint is informed partly by my love of Serie A, and I do get defensive when people knock it. Roll Eyes

Yeah, exactly right about the English ban. It was exporting it which ultimately did for the English clubs

100's of fans outside the stadiums during the Serie B matches... 300 policemen were still required at the San Paolo in Napoli, which is properly safer open than closed.... should be the same tomorrow with the serie matches... home and away fans are still travelling to the stadiums to be close to the teams.

Stadiums with fans looked no different, Flags and banners havent been banned....a few fireworks outside the stadiums..

I do agree it's unfair to ban all clubs from Europe but I still think it's the way forward. I really think that if the clubs causing trouble and the Italian game in general started getting proper hit in the pockets through loss of European competition then they would finally, finally do something about the situation. Most things come down to money in the end! If that means the Italian game goes through a temporary slump (it can't really get that much lower though) then so be it if it's to the benefit of the future of the game. If unfortunately it doesn't recover then maybe that's just the price the game will have to play - after all football is only a game - folk shouldn't be losing their lives for going to watch a ball being kicked about.

I know what you mean about the problem with the English situation was that the trouble was exported but surely in a way that shouldn't matter? To me I can't understand the difference that much - so UEFA takes action because English fans were involved in trouble abroard, fair enough, but it doesn't take action against the constant ongoing violence, racism etc in Italian football. To me I don't understand why it takes the trouble crossing a border to step in.

In an ideal world the Italian football authorities would deal with the situation but they are clearly completely inept, full of men in nice suits with flowery words and not a lot else, so to me this would be a logical time for UEFA to step in clamp down on this complete ineptness. I think that's the thing, as much as I think the clubs need to be punished, overall I guess it's these authorities in charge of the game.

Spagbelli, I'm not sure if I like the Italian game much anymore to be honest, but I obvioulsy did or I wouldn't be on this forum. I wish I was writing more positive stuff about it!

UEFA and Italian football authorities = The Chuckle Brothers
