quote: Since when did the Dutch or the Montenegrins become a race?
The definition of a race is always in a state of confusion if you ask me, but in my private opinion, calling the Dutch 'a race' is uncontroversial, given that the dictionary defines race as..... 1. A local geographic or global human population distinguished as a more or less distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics. 2. A group of people united or classified together on the basis of common history, nationality, or geographic distribution: the German race. I agree the Netherlands is a very racially heterogenous society, but that doesn't mean there's no such thing as an indigenous Dutch race, more or less distinct group.
When in Rome, do the Romans.

"..distinct group by genetically transmitted physical characteristics.."
Are the dutch any different to the Belgians or the Germans?
I would have cast race as something larger (perhaps as many large races as there are continents with a dozen smaller ones, mostly of an indigenous nature).
In any event, it is better than the anthropological definition which allows for just three races.

Did you know that Noemie Lenoir, the hot chick in the recent Marks & Spencer's adverts (see hear for a reminder), is married to Chelsea's Claude Makelele? She must have been feeling rather depressed and worthless when she agreed to go out with him, don't you think?
