I no longer live in the UK (thank God it seems) but I've a sly grin on my face after hearing this. Enjoy Gobbi, enjoy!

James Richardson will be presenting pay-per-view Premiership football on BT Vision, a new cable channel that's been launched recently. Apparently it has the rights to 46 matches.

I suppose that makes it less likely that Five will hire him - although the Gazzetta-style programme, which won't be live, could presumably be James-fronted.

Not that I'd ever for a one-off game on telly, but is BT vision available on Sky digital.

BT vision is a tv service like sky/virgin media, you need to have a box to get BT vision

As yet, Five have not revealed their plans for Serie A coverage. The company producing the coverage, Tinopolis, have said that they don't yet know whether it will be a highlights programme or live matches as well.

If Five decide to show live matches, obviously the best ones now KO on a Sunday evening. So they'd be going head-to-head with Sky's La Liga coverage.

If they go for the Sunday afternoon fixtures, they'd be competing with the Premiership.

We'll have to wait and see, but I suspect we might see a combination of a highlights programme and delayed, late-night transmission of big games.

My dream scenario - a James-fronted Gazzetta and live Sunday evening games - sadly looks like a thing of the past. I didn't realise how lucky we all were in that first year of Bravo coverage!

Thank you for your recent enquiry regarding Italian Football.

Unfortunately, we are unable to confirm recent speculation that we have acquired the rights to coverage of the 2007-08 season. As further information becomes available it will be released for publication in the local and national press. We recommend keeping an eye on the television listings magazines or the various Football Italia forums. Alternatively, please contact us again later in 2007 when more details may be available.

If there is anything further we can help you with, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Thank you for your interest in Five.

Yours sincerely

No, you're right Nige.

Showing a 2:00pm UK kick-off on a Saturday would give Five something like 100% of the potential viewer share as I don't think there's anything else on at that time.

Even on a Sunday, a 2:00pm kick-off would lead up nicely to a 4:00pm Premiership start.

That would be sweet.

Aren't there lots of Premiership games at 2:00 on Sundays as well? Last year, there were often two or three televised Prem games on Sunday - not just the 4:00 KO.

There's a blog called FootballingWorld which seems to know a lot about the Five deal. It says their deal covers a highlights package, but most live matches will stay on Setanta. I'm not sure where FootballingWorld got that info from. Other reports I've seen suggest that Five is the exclusive rights holder.

I've just had a look at the schedules, and there will be regular 1.30 KOs for Premiership games on Sundays this season. They're shared out between Sky and Setanta. Then there's another game at 4:00.

As for 2:00 KOs in Serie A on Saturdays...how many are there? The bulk of games KO at 2:00 British time on a Sunday, with big games moved to Sunday evening or, sometimes, Saturday evening.

Trouble is the best matches are usually evening kick-offs. It did not take long for Channel Four to work out that they got higher viewing figures if they put on an old film rather than live Italian football.
