The Live Football on TV website, which funnily enough tells you what live football is going to be on which channel, has Serie A listed as live on Five on Sunday 26th August at 2:00pm...

And NO Serie A on this weekend on Setanta. Plenty of space for Portuguese and Dutch football though.

Having watched the first 10 mins of five's coverage I have to admit I most definitely would!
It's called Sex Panther, by Odeon. It's illegal in 9 other countries. It's made with pieces of real panther, so you know it's good. They've done studies you know - 60% of the time, it works every time!

I thought it was all a bit awkward. It was nice to see Cudicini (he's a fox) but what was he there for ? It's not too late to bring in JR you know.

Hey, Italian football programmes have hot women on them so why can't we?! Barnes kept on making stereotypical comments on Italian football that highlighted just how tiny his 'knowledge' of calcio is. At least Chappers stuck to asking questions and not making any stupid comments of his own - what is it with five and employing Radio 1 presenters/newsreaders to front their football coverage? Really makes you appreciate James Richardson, doesn't it? We'll just have to watch the matches and download the GU podcast to get a proper incite into it!

I was ready to give Lucy Esposito a chance but then she said she was a Milanista. Now we can never be together.

I'm gonna stick with watching streams on Bet365 I think (who show 5 games a week)... Next week's match on 5 is Cagliari-Juve but Sampdoria-Lazio looks a much better option...

Pros: At least someone is showing live Serie A, Commentary isnt as bad as I thought it would be, Highlights of other games Laura Cons: No analysis of the game as far as i can remember, No one seems to have genuine knowledge of Italian football, Eurosport and Bravo had JR and Italian football journalists We have to wait till saturday to see highlights of the other games, Laura is just a bad attempt to attract male viewers and a MAJOR distraction from the calcio. Maybe keep her for the highlights show. What are the bet365 games for next week?

I thought the pre-match half hour was awful despite the best efforts of the producers to soften us up with that bird. Surely if your aim is to educate your audience you want to have some knowledgable, pro presenters fronting your show. Half of what they rambling on about was crap anyway, would have been nice to use that time to show the tifosi and coreography, if there were any?

youd have thought that with the experiences JB has had in his life as a footballer he would be above continually making reference to percieved national stereotypes but unfortunately not.it may have been forgivable if otherwise he showed he knew what he was talking about regarding calcio but again, unfortunately not.

Five have, as expected decided to fill their coverage with people who don't really know a lot about Italian football. I was fearing the worst when I read John Barnes was commentating, and while he didn't seem to annoy me much in the first half (perhaps because I expected him to be so bad), the second half was pretty bad from him. Having said that though I'm grateful that Five have taken up the rights to the coverage, even if they should get more qualified pundits in.

Barnes is an idiot, Serie A has been the highest scoring league for the last 2 seasons. The man is a muppet.
Cudicini and the 'breasts with mouth', who makes old Susanna Campanale sound intellectual, are just very sad people.

In defence of Laura, I think she's just not too comfortable with English. I always thought Joe Jordan and Ray Wilkins were pretty sound, but haven't they both got other commitments now? Even a drunk Gazza would have had more incite than Barnes!

Yeah but to be honest you'd have thought a pre-requisite of presenting a programme would be to have a good grasp of English! I'm not that fussed really - partly cos she's well nice (bonjour!), Chappers is good and really it's good to just have it back on TV. I think the problem with the commentary is that they're just seeing what we're seeing - i.e. the TV pictures! In the C4 days they were at the ground weren't they? I can forgive the not too hot commentary mind you there were a couple times you thought come on do your research - like the Mijahlovic point from John Barnes and they generally sounded a bit clueless about Calcio sometimes - a couple hours reading the FI site would give you some good background knowledge

I agree that it's good to have Calcio back on normal telly but I thought the coverage was very poor in all departments. As has been said, Barnes just couldn't help himself, talking about the Italian mentality and constantly making comparisons between Serie A and the Premier League but I thought the studio "chat" was beneath ameteurish... Laura: "so. carlo. what. do. you. think. the. main. differences. are. between. Serie A. and. the. Premiership?"
Why the constant need to compare the two? I just don't get it. At least Laura's wooden-ness can be put down to her not speaking her native toungue whereas Chapman joins the Chris Moyles club of DJs who shouldn't be allowed near a TV studio. I can't actually think of a worse choice than Chapman; a Man U fan and professional Premier League tub-thumper. He has also (ab)used his heavily editorialised sports reports on Radio 1 to criticise Italian Football on more than one occasion. Notably around the time of the Roma/Man U games and when the draw was made for the hosting rights for the 2012 Euro Champs'. He's presumably doing it just to establish himself as a tv presenter. Thank God Cudicini was there. All he did was state the obvious but at least he added a bit of authority and experience. Bring back Big Ron!! I can't believe I just said that but at least he seemed to know the player's names!
