hello everyone,
as i am only a recent member here, so could someone just briefly explain who the unfortunate person you are raising money for was so i can help to donate something, also
in the past i have raised money doing marathons
i am thinking of doing the rome marathon in march and if i do it, maybe we can use this to raise even more money.
its just a thought, let me know if the idea appeals.

Hi Leccese tifoso,

Marcello was a long-standing and popular member of this forum and away from here a really lovely guy. He passed away suddenly two years ago while taking part in the Great North Run. We all miss him very much.
Your marathon idea does appeal, it's a lovely idea. Thank you.
All donations gratefully received - big, small or medium. Smilex

hello Verno,
sorry to hear of this sad loss. He must have been a really nice person being all the positve comments he has received here.
The Rome marathon is in march 2006, there is some time to go but if you and others are still interested i will certainly use it to raise money for him.
Being that the unfortunate gentleman died taking part in a run i think this sounds a really good way in raising money for him.
may i ask was he suffering from any type of illness.
i am off to Venice in the next couple of days so as you can guess i need every penny. i was hoping to take part in the venice marathon but i picked up a injury last week and it does not look good naw. But i am still going since the hotel etc has been booked.
anyway when i get back and check my wallet i will donate something.
good luck with the money raising its a great thing you are doing

No, he was fit and healthy. He was an experienced runner as well. He'd had a cold in the days leading up to the race and that was enough to weaken his heart. It's still a bit unbelieveable to me.

Me too. The tragedy still resonates through me like a thousand knives. Verno's forum presence at the time was second to none. It proves what a fantastic person she is and illustrates how Marcello Chicarella's untimely death was handled with the most credible dignity and respect.

Thanks Bracey *blush*.
I'm not sure I deserve that credit. I think everybody on here was great about it and continue to be.

If only MPC was around to see this - I'd have loved to see his response!

Just to let you know that the total money raised in memory of Marcello was £225.00. Thanks again to Verno for letting everyone know and to everyone who contributed. It was much appreciated.
