Those miltary junta's have a strange way of 'having a good time'
Lake Como is the nicest place ive ever been...in travelling terms, im a Europhile [and i cant bear to be on a plane for very long because of the recycled air and the heights and the plummeting and the crashing and food...i could go on...]
"Why do you take my statements with a papal seriousness?" "I don't want the virgin olive oil..."
I am with you Mikey, Northern Italy does it for me. My favourite place is Lake Garda but I fancy a Lake Como trip sometime. Where did you stay on the lake ?
Rome is fantastic but I generally prefer southern Italy to the north, although Bra and Alba were very nice. Fermo (little town south of Ancona) is jolly nice too and I had my best ever meal there

I've only been north of Florence once, when I went to Verona in 2001.
The Arena is quite nice and some of the architecture is fairly pleasant, but that's about it.
There didn't seem to be much going on, really... the weather wasn't great, there weren't many (or any) galleries or museums and the food wasn't particularly inspiring.
Also, the people were less friendly than in Firenze, but that may have been more to do with my 'non-white' wife. It's got a bit of a reputation has Verona...
Slow food place called L’enoteca (cunning, I know) on the Piazza del Popolo. We went two nights running and it's one of these great places where there's no menus - you just get what you're given and no need to choose wine either.
Six or seven (depending on what you count)courses every night, generally starting with a plate of freshly made sausage and salami(an outstanding liver sausage), followed by some soup, some pasta, more bits and bobs, a bit of meat, some cheese, dessert, coffee and some little chocotates. All freshly and excellently made. I was in heaven. And a little bloated and tipsy.
And Martina Franca managed a 1-1 draw.
