Honest opinions, folks... is anybody still @rsed about this? If not, then I'll know not to set a league up for next summer.

Am afraid most are not really that bothered. My problem is am new at this (my first time actually)so am not skilled at managing the team. For instance since I picked the team I have not done anything on it.

I think people do get a bit bored when they don't have a good start, and it's been a bit disappointing this season in terms of competition.

However, I was new to this game last season and was rubbish. I eventually lost interest with two or three months to go (although I pretended to lose interest in October, to excuse my shameful form ) and eventually finished around fourteenth (of 14 ). But this season I've learned how to play it and I've been a bit lucky and it's a lot more enjoyable now. So hopefully people like sms will have a chance next season when they are more accustomed to the competition.

Also, we only have 31 players and thirteen of us made transfers this month, so I think there is still interest.

I won't mind a little tutorial

It's quite simple sms. Sign Lampard and Henry at the start of the season (if fit).

Am I right in saying that your team is Racca Rovers and that you haven't made any transfers?

In which case, it's very simple: make transfers and change your captain every week depending on upcoming fixtures.

General points:

1. Sign Lampard and Henry at the start of the season (if fit).

2. Make Henry your captain when Arsenal are at home, when they are away (particularly up north) make Lampard your captain. If Arsenal are above the Watford Gap and Chelsea have a really difficult tie give the captaincy to RVN, Gerrard, or any other 'big' player (particularly a striker) in your team if they have an easier match.

3. Sign a cheap, but reasonably reliable keeper (Jaaskelainen, Carroll, Kuszscak etc) and another, possibly even cheaper one that will play regularly (Davis, Pollitt). I signed Reina, who at 5.5 was a wee bit more expensive, but still value.

4. Sign a good second striker. This might be expensive (RVN, Rooney, Crespo, Drogba, Yakubu) or less expensive (D. Bent at his starting price of 7.0, also Cole and McBride have been well worth it). If you manage to find a cheap striker who'll score as many points as Bent then you can probably afford one of the other afforementioned strikers, and end up with something great like Henry-RVN-Bent. If you are not so clever (or lucky) sign a very cheap third striker who will play regularly (Zamora, Moore, John).

5. Try to balance the rest of your team. Your fifth defender should be really cheap. Your fifth midfielder should be reasonably inexpensive, but still a regular player as you will need him more often than the fifth defender. Other than that just go with who you feel is worth the money. Look for players who will score points. The most important thing is that they play almost every game. Clean sheets are important for defenders, but getting forward is also important which is why guys like Chimbonda and Michael Gray are useful. Similarly, Makelele, Hleb and Tugay don't get forward too often but Giannakopoulos, J. Cole and Reid do. So go for attacking midfielders.

6. You have one free transfer every gameweek. Use it, your entire team (with the possible exception of Lampard and the keepers) will likely need changed at some stage. Try not to make more than one transfer a week as the points cost is generally not worth it unless your team is really terrible or injury-hit.

If you are Racca Rovers, this is what you do:

This week (gw25), transfer out Okocha for Hughes (Charlton) and Duff for Kewell. This will cost you four points, but as the latter have double gameweeks, it should work out ok. Next gameweek (gw26), replace Mills with Gray (Blackburn).

You also need to improve your strikers. You could do this by swapping Defoe for Crespo or Horsefield for Kuqi (Blackburn) in gw 26. This would cost another 4pts, but you can't afford to have Defoe in there if he is not first choice (he was a sub last night). Kuqi might be a good choice as Blackburn have two easy games in gw 26. Alternatively leave it until gw 27 and then put Crespo in (unless Drogba is back in the team by then) or Darren Bent (no longer the value player he was at the start of the season, but he'll continue to score). Ideally you want to get rid of both Horsefield and Defoe. Others to consider bringing in are Mellor, Moore and Ellington. Fowler at 7.0 might be a good gamble.

After that, get rid of Makelele and probably Fabregas too. If you can afford him, Robben is probably the second best Chelsea midfielder (I was going to suggest a straight Duff-Robben swap, but that wouldn't free any funds at all). Another cheap midfielder, such as Thompson or Bullard at Wigan or Reo-Coker at West Ham would do the job of either Fabregas or Makelele. If you've still got money, then Pedersen (Blackburn) or Nolan. Jarosik might be a good mid-price buy.
