This type of reaction is so hilarious. Clearly a friendly that was played with no players from the first- or second-choice teams (as no one from the WC roster save Amelia featured) can determine whether or not Donadoni can effectively manage the national squad. This is the same knee-jerk reaction that blasted Italy's chances in the WC in this forum both before it started, and after the draw to the US (oops on both). People actually argued that a friendly draw to Switzerland meant the Nazionale couldn't win. What rubbish. Lippi started off his tenure with an experimental squad too, and lost to Iceland by the same score line. Italy will still have most of the players that won the WC, and I don't see how much Donadoni could do to mess up. He's not going to mess with that squad that much, and they're proven winners.

I took the result with a grain of salt, just like Lippi's first game in charge against Iceland. Means very little. Most of the players will not be in the squad for the Euro qualifiers. FORZA AZZURRI CAMPIONI DEL MONDO

You cant really blame Donadoni for trying out new players, but his squad was a bit rubbish. To even begin to suggest he isnt up to the task after one game with what are b-team and c-team players is a bit OTT.

Delpierosgirl made a valid point as a lot of the press hammered Donadoni and they certainly did not imply that it was only down to an experimental squad. I think many journalists have questioned Donadoni's skill and experience. To be honest who else could have taken the job straight after Lippi's achievements? Certainly not one of the established coaches (Capello, Ancelotti etc) who could have ruined their reputations if they failed to match Lippi's achievemnets. Better a younger man where slightly less is expected and where failure would not be deemed career ending for him. The downside of being world champions - but something I can live with for the next 4 years...!!
Deep down - everyone wishes they were Italian...

yes a good point roma, i think it was very brave for donadoni to take the job on after victory in germany. We need to give him time and just hope he does not change the world cup winners much except with a odd tweek here or there. Possibly Cassano or Miccoli but apart from that i doubt if we need to do anything else
