its just a shame football is used like this!
rugby games are totally different.
When the game ends you mingle with rival fans have a chat drink together its great why oh why is it not like this in football.
When i go to cardiff to support italy against wales this is always the case.

Of course it it - I frequently stand on the terraces at Gloucester whilst my butler provides me with copious amounts of Pimms.

I'm so glad that I don't go to football matches where I'd have to mix with all those working class oiks - it's bad enough that they have to work on my estate, but cheap labour is so hard to find.

not true!
i live in wales, and everyone loves it!
The passion in wales for the sport is huge with all classes of people. There is room for all sports everywhere and though i prefer football i would never knock rugby or indeed any sport its a matter of preference

Sorry? Is there really this much fuss over a couple of T-Shirts? So they had something about the Mafia on it, really in the grand scale of things so what?! Who was hurt? What library was burnt down? I can't understand why you're worried, stereotypes are just a natural thing, often funny and need to be taken with a pinch of salt. What a world we live in! Do kids ever hear the phrase sticks and stones any more? I tell you if anyone ever says I must be a farmer and go ooo arrr a lot cos I'm from the West Country I'm going to write to The Guardian and say its racism then declare a jihad

hello fellow country bumkin! yes i know whot you mean but people have suffered under the mafia even been killed!
As a reault to a lot of people this is a very sensitive issue. There is no way a joke can be made out of the mafia so i say get rid of the shirts.
i bet we got more sheep in my part of the country (wales) than you got in the west country

Jokes can be made about the Mafia, though. Have you seen the Sopranos? That has some very funny jokes about the Mafia in it! Just because people have died at the hands of the Mafia does not mean that jokes cannot be made.

If I am wrong may I find a horses head in my bed tomorrow.

Yep - I know people have been killed by the Mafia but I think you have to put it into context a bit, I don't think even if you sat the most moronic of those West Ham fans down and said "do you think it's good people are killed by the mafia?" they'd have said yes - I just think it's reading far too much into something. We need less of that in the world!

As for sheep, well round here it's more cows to be honest. Bullocks too, there is this big field near me with a load in, they're great fun, gets the adrenaline pumping walking through the field. Cool

a couple of points (5 actually Cool).

1) 4 Roma girl. it is true that these shirts were (are?) sold in palermo (and rest Italy?). They were considered equally offensive.

2) Hammers', London, Uk vs the Mafia, Palermo, Italy seems to me more direct than Mafia Made in Italy.

3) Sicilians are very sensitive to the issue, cause normally they are the ones who have suffered the most from this disgrace. Maybe I should try convince my friend, whose father has beel killed by the Mafia, that now we can joke about it.

4) Mafia started in Palermo from a small minority of people. Here it is considered an insult and the great majority of people do not want to be associated with the word. I hope this is understandable to most.

5) no one in Palermo is running around shouting insults against the English. It has simply been very politely noticed that being called "Mafia" is in Sicily now commonly and widely considered an insult. On this note, a bit of history. The word mafioso started to be widely spread because of a 19th century drama called "I Mafiosi di la Vicaria", a story of passion and revenge in the streets of Palermo. Since then and for decades in Palermo the word was associated to courage, pride, honour and family values. It took a lonf time, but the word mafioso is now associated (as it can be seen from this discussion) to a coward killer. I think this is a substantial improvement in the social perception of a problem, and the Palermitani should take credit for it. It they then reclaim this credit, I do not think this should be considered as a lack of humour.

Sono bello sono sano, mia madre mi ha fatto Palermitano!!!
