Guidolin: We Deserved The Win

Francesco Guidolin is satisfied with his Palermo after another good performance which earned the Sicilian side three important points against Bologna.
Palermo are currently in the top positions of Serie A and Guidolin stated that today's win against Bologna was well deserved at the end of the day.

Franco Brienza scores a sharp liner into the near post from the penalty box area. Palermo are showing there defense can cope with the best of them in the 1-0 win agaisnt Bologna... Palermo still undefeated at 2-3-0 and only conceding 2 goals in 5 matches, What a great start to Serie A season, im hoping to see Palermo in Europe next year... I was a fan of Bari but after years and years of suffering after the loss of Antonio Cassano, our chairman shows no support for our team and we are one step closer to serie c once again if things dont change...but i must support my favorite team of Serie A, Palermo.

i wouldnt abandon my team...i mean its my town, i look foward to seeing the best of Bari, but it doesnt look like it will happen because our chairman Mattarese is a selfish punk who sold Antonio Cassano for 24.5 Million Euro and never did anything with the money. We lost our best striker last year, Gionatha Spinesi who is the top scorer for Serie B this season in Arezzo and we are full of Serie C crap since our chairman doesnt want to buy anything, besides we were suppose to be in C anyways, but a miracle of Napoli and Ancona gave us a lifeline for B this season. I will always be a Bari fan but i see no point in supporting a team that the team itself shows no support for, the days of Bari in A look to be over. So i will support Palermo for A

Played five, conceded two. Excellent work by the defenders, with Zaccardo deserving his call up to the Azzurri.

Great start really for a newly promoted club, especially as they've already had to face Juve away and a pretty potent Inter away - two of the hardest games Palermo could have this season.

I have seen Palermo play live (I am one of the lucky season ticket holders :-)) Zaccardo has been good, but I must say that the real merits of the defence (only 2 goals conceded) rest on Barzagli and especially on Giuseppe Biava (nobody knew him last year). I think they deserve more attention from Lippi. Especially if someone like Materazzi is still in the National squad. For il_ferret, I am glad you enjoyed all the Palermo experience.

Cheers Skiver - would there be any chance of getting into a Serie A match at the Renzo Barbera? Any touts outside? Or is the best chance of a ticket in the Coppa Italia?

I was there when Palermo played Inter in the San Siro, and bars were full with people watching the match and wouldn't let extra people in!

The all town has been football crazy for the past two years (as you have probably seen) and the stadium is fantastic. It must be really intimidating for opposition teams. It is a wonderful experience to be in the "Barbera/La Favorita". The only way you can get in for a league match is in the visitors' stands (I do not recommend it!). Next fixture in Coppa Italia is Palermo-Milan. For that occasion it will be very difficult to find tickets. If I will be able to get an extra ticket (I have a pre-booking advantage), I will be glad to turn one to you, if you want.

Thanks for the offer, but as I live in Coventry it might be difficult! I'd like to go back there one day soon and catch a match, though.

You're right about the passion - everyone was wearing a pink scarf on the Saturday night - men, women and kids.

They are completely non-commercial. You will find info in the club history (check Ranieri's pic when he was a Palermo player...), videos of matches from the curva. il ferret, I think we can give a hard time to anybody. Beating Milan is another story, though. We are just enjoying the ride and trying to keep a low profile, especially this year. I just hope we reach safety asap, then we'll see. We have been in the Coppa Italia final before (a very long time ago!), but with no luck. But what do you know, maybe things are really turning our way after all these years! ;-)
PS Appartently Toni should start the next Italy game as main and only striker in two possible modules 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-1-1 (the Guidolin module). That's great cause Toni is amazing up-front even if he is alone. What do you think?

Good stuff about Toni. About time a young, in-form striker from outside of the big clubs is given a chance. Vieri/Delpiero/Totti/Di Viao have let Italy down enough.

Not sure how serious Milan will take the Coppa - or Palermo for that matter. I think a full strength Palermo would beat a weakened Milan. Obviously safety is number one priority, but after such a promising start Europe may be in our sights, and the Coppa Italia could be the best way, if Milan, Juve, Inter and Roma aren't going to take it as seriously.

Toni is a very important team player and a reliable striker. Biava, Corini and Barzagli have been outstanding as well. We miss the contribution of Gasbarroni, Santana (who played well last sunday), and we have not seen much of Gonzalez... Apparently he is very good.

Milan are always serious about the Coppa. Even if they weren't they have a fantastic bench line. As far as Palermo are concerned, Guidolin has always taken it seriously (He won it with Vicenza), but the bench is not so long... I hope one day Palermo will take the place of Parma and become one of the seven sisters (even tough maybe now they are only three... :-()
I think people are overlooking the fact that this is a very long championship. The best teams will come out in the end, but newly promoted teams have a slight advantage because they just played a 24 teams tournament and they are used to play twice a week. Let us wait, enjoy the ride and see what happens.
