Good spot Michael, it's now on Sky Sports that he's pulled out because there was 20 reporters camped out in his driveway last night.

Either the FA has been very clever, used Scolari as a decoy and agreed terms with Martin O'Neill (about as likely as me winning the lottery tomorrow), or they'll now have to panic a bit. I suspect that a statement from a headless chicken will be issued from Soho Square tomorrow morning.

I'd have thought that the only solution that has any diginity attached now is to give Maclaren the job, using the line that the FA wanted him to be the number 2 to Scolari to gain experience before succeeding Big Phil as the coach; now their hand has been force, he gets the job early, with Stuart Pearce as his number 2...

Maclaren is, after all, the most successful English manager since Wilkinson won the First Division with Leeds. Frighteningly, Allardyce and Curbishley have less impressive track records than Graham Taylor...

I think I may have been the cause of the thread being cut. I apologise if I was. All I was saying was that France's 98 world cup winners consisted of loads of players who werent 'true' Frenchmen.

Maybe they thought the debate might reignite the race riots in France!! Never mind ay!

What the hell's a 'true' Frenchman ? I've got 'French' friends with ancestors from Senegal, Guadeloupe, St Martin, etc. What makes them any less French than a white 'Frenchman' born in Algeria? Robert Pires ancestry is half Portugese. Not French? One of my best friends is three quarters Lebanese, one quarter Portugese. She calls herself FRENCH. How do you define a 'Frenchman'? What's your problem? Will you be telling me I'm not a 'true' Englishman next?

On Newsnight just now, Garth Crooks made an appearance - discussing the England job etc. At the end, he went through the back pages of tomorrow's newspapers...and there was one story (which may have actually been on the front page) in a tabloid, which was "Steve McLaren: My Secret Affair"....can this get any more ridiculous?!
