Ah, I was about to subscribe to this channel as I miss the live Italian games. How much coverage of Italian games do they cover on Setanta sports ?? And are there any highlight shows like the old gazette ??? Speaking of which where is James Richardson nowadays what’s he up to ?? Bring back James and Gazette on any channel at all!!
If things don't change they'll stay the same

the highlights show is very basic-pure extended highlights of most games over an hour, few features or talking;i like this but not everyone will. They show live games from Italy,Holland,Germany,France,Portugal and Scoland. These live games are shown over the course of a fri-sun weekend but the decision to show Golf every w/e evening from 8 or so on Setanta 1 severly curtails live footy coverage-you lose 3 games. If youre subscribing on topup tv rather than sky you only get setnta 1 so about the only live games youll get will be the scottish one.You can see their schedule on their website.Bear in mind if you subscribe the tie in is 12 months. If on the basis of this you decide not to subscribe, any chance of emailing setatnta and telling them why, they might decide to improve this situation.

steviemacd, Thanks V much for giving me the details on Setanta's footy coverage. £15 a month seems a bit pricey for what you get, and only really want to watch the Italian games, (no offense to any Scots out there ) I'll certainly drop them a snotty message about the 12 month tie in (cheeky sods) Maybe next season as I will get to watch some premiership games. But guess at the end of the day we all just want Bravo to see sense, or another channel take up the show and put Footbal Italia back on our screens !! We live in hope !!

As an Inter & Rangers fan I have to say I am very pleased with Setanta. Apart from the fact that every Rangers away game is shown live (and you get the Rangers TV channel) I have missed very few Inter games this season too. Last night we had Inter-Palermo live on Setanta Sports 2 followed by the full re-run of Roma-Sampdoria. I too prefer a highlights programme that shows purely football with no features. They show a lot of games on delayed transmission too which is fine with me as I just avoid the score so it's as if it's live. And the other bonus for Sky viewers is that if Setanta Sports 1 or 2 isn't showing an Italian game live it can pop up on Setanta Sports Ireland which is included.

Am I right in thinking that the 2-year deal which saw Setanta and Bravo share the rights to Serie A expires next month? So the British TV rights to Italian football are presumably up for grabs.
If anyone hears any news about the destiny of these TV rights, and a possible comeback by JR, please will you post the info on this site? In fact, can I ask the site editors whether they will flag up this info somewhere on the homepage?
Molto grazie, and fingers crossed for JR-led coverage back on an accessible non-PPV channel.

Yeah, I'm having to get my weekly fix of JR from the GU podcast
It's called Sex Panther, by Odeon. It's illegal in 9 other countries. It's made with pieces of real panther, so you know it's good. They've done studies you know - 60% of the time, it works every time!

I'd be more than happy for Setanta to get the rights again as at least they are a sports channel and therefore have the ability to show a lot of the games (at least 2 games a weekend for most of the season), unlike Bravo with their one game a weekend coverage. Will be interesting to see what Setanta charge for next season now that they've got the Premiership too.

I hope eurosport get the tv rights. It would be even better of skysports get the rights and as this way they will show two matches a week.
You know, setanta have been crap this month. Hardly shown any serie A matches apart from repeats.
When is the auction going to take place?

I agree with most you that Setanta sports coverage of Itlian football so far has been poor. I am not a fan of Sky however if they did get the rights I am confident they will do a good job. To date I think channel fours Football Italia has been the best to cover football in Italy. I have to admit that I am also not impressed with the comentary on there Italian games, saying that the German games that I have seen in the last couple of weeks on Setanta have been really good. If Sky did get the rights at least I can tie it up with the Champions League games which involve Italian clubs & justify getting a dish. The Milan/Man Utd game is the best Champoins league game I have seen in a while.

the best coverage IMO was Sky in the early 90s.Setantas is ok when they bother and their highlights are excellent,i dont think channel 4s was that great personally,it did however have the great virtue of being free

sorry to bring back an old thread but setanta's coverage is s**t. although its good to get all celtic and old firm games the show itself is bad. not only do you have to sit through 90 minutes of guff either watching celtic or rangers, you then have to listen to scott booth bore you the full way through then listen to craig burley pretend to know what he's talking about aswell.
even though they are getting prem games, how many do you think will be the decent games.
it'll be the crap one before the 4pm sund game or a monday or tue. doubt they will get the big games unless they need to get some as parft of the deal.

There's an ambiguous advert for Setanta in this month's Calcio Italia. It says something along the lines of "Exclusive coverage of Serie A - and next season, we have the Premiership".
It doesn't say that Setanta will have Serie A and the Premiership at the same time...

my experience wiith Setanta started off very well, with 2-3 Serie A games and 1 Serie B game every week - I was more than happy to pay £15 a month for that. But the last couple of months of the season, it just crapped out.... they just showed 1 serie A game, that too sometimes delayed... just pathetic. And from the looks of it, they are noyt showing Serie A next season... and I have another 6 months to go. What a waste of money!

Now that Ch5 have Seriea A, it's bye-bye Setanta for me. The coverage wasn't diabolical, but it wasn't great either. You were never sure which game was on, or when, and towards the end of the season they were more or less all delayed games. I can't believe there were that mamy people who would prefer watching Ajax - Grongingen .......
