Still gutted Fisichella stalled in his pitstop. Now a fantastic race but an interesting result, and it sparked off an 'is Jenson Button any good' debate on fivelive which is always amusing (answer:NO)

I'm not sure what happened during the race, although I've read that it was quite entertaining. I can only remember two things of note from the race: Sato stalling on the grid (which I saw on a track-side screen) and Karthakiyen spinning right in front of me. My, that was £250 well spent...

Yeah, he's crap. But he's rich and he puts lots of birds away, so he's alright in my book!

I know, I know! It was £250 for a full weekend, although we didn't go on the Friday (ended up getting wasted in Northampton). Saturday was quite good, as we caught a bit of the Porsche race and sat in Luffield for the qualifying, which is possibly the best area after the pit straight. As I've said, you don't really know what's happening during the race, and even if you ignore the fact that they were charging £3 for 3/4 of a pint of warm Fosters and there was about 2 public toilets for about 100,000 people, I have to say that the entire event was pretty disappointing. Oh, I also got major sunburn and am now sporting a white 'body glove' t-shirt that I can't take off...

Poor Mezz. I'm sure there's a lesson in all of this.

Another good stage of the Tour. Thank God Vino proved that he still has got the ability to start breakways from absolutely nowhere, and win races. I wonder if he would have been allowed so much freedom by US Postal (I still call them that) if he was closer to Armstrong at the start of the day. Hmm.
And poor Jens Voigt! The Yellow Jersey to not making the cut-off time in two days! I guess that shows why you don't put all your effort into the one stage simply to get the Maillot Jaune - you'll pay for it later.

quote: Another thing that was a bit irritating was everyone booing Schumacher when he went past us. He had a little wobble under breaking, and about 10,000 people around me in Hanger Straight nearly spent themselves. Muppets.
What's wrong with that?

I suppose you would have to ask the people who were booing him for a more defined answer, but on the surface it seemed to be because: a) he's German b) he's successful, and a lot of Brits are jealous of that. c) he's confident, and that's misconceived as him being arrogant. d) up until this season, he continually won races and championships and somehow contributed to F1 becoming 'boring'. It just seemed rather childish to me, particularly as there no doubt would have been unadulterated joy if he had crashed and injured himself. I remember when he broke his legs at Silverstone a few years ago, there was practically talk of declaring a national holiday. Michael Schumacher is arguably the greatest F1 driver of all time, and I think it's a privilige that we have the oppertunity to see someone so talented do his thing.

e) He & his team are a bunch of cheats. f) He has twice put the lives of two other drivers in danger by crashing into them on purpose. g) Apparantly he likes Paul Young. Forza Juventus. Scotland 1 - 0 France 07/10/06 France 0 - 1 Scotland 12/09/07

The booing, despite Dels' opinion, was in response to his stance against the other drivers after the US Grand Prix.
The fact that he, and his team, chose the right set up and were in perfect condition for the race, whereas the other teams and their tyre manufacturer cocked up is, it seems, irrelevant.
I agree with Mezz, he is certainly one of the greatest drivers of all time and it's a shame the crowd at Silverstone treated him the way they did.
Still, this is the same crowd that used to adore the two most boring drivers of all time, Mansell and Hill, so we shouldn't be too surprised. I remember when Hill signed for Arrows, which was just up the road from us. Hill played golf at our golf club and came in when it started to rain quite hard, to which some wag pointed out that Damon Hill could never drive in the rain!

He's a great driver, but his attitude over the years has resembled that of a spoilt brat. I don't think there's much wrong with the spectators booing him.
Although it does seem rather pointless, as I doubt he can hear the booing from within the car.

You're probably right there, Michael, but there were plenty of 'tosser' hand motions and one-fingered salutes everytime he went past. I appreciate that people have their gripes about Michael Schumacher, whether it be due to your perception of his attitude or his fondness for Paul Young, but when you've seen 10,000 people stand up and do the above every 80 seconds for an hour and a half, it all seems rather lame...

There were also probably a few tools in the crowd that did it unknowingly to Reubens Barichello too........ Typical of a lot of the British, dislike the champions.

Just seen Amir Khan batter some poor guy from London in less than one round. Even though his opponent had only fought seven times and been beaten four of those times he had never been stopped and was also an ex kick boxing champion. Amir, whatever you do, don't become Naseem. Please.

I've never understood why people pay so much money to go and see a fight which (predictably) lasts less than three minutes.
