Craig David has signed for Northampton - I really don't understand transfers like that! I mean at least one of the parties hasn't thought it out at all have they? Crrrrrrraig Davies probably got homesick but then why did he go anyway? Then why didn't Hellas scope things out a bit more? Sounds like they're not too fussed to lose him, what a pointless jaunt

The Beeb is reporting that he's signed for Wolves on a season-long loan. If that's true, I think Wolves will find he is nowhere near Championship quality. I've seen him several times for Wales (at various levels) and I'm afriad he is not much cop.

Wolves? I must have that wrong then, I think I read about Northampton last week, maybe it was just a trial or something. Never really seen him, I saw him for about two seconds in that friendly against the Basques. If he's not much cop it makes me think why on earth did he end up at Hellas even more! You'd think they'd manage to search out a not much cop forward from closer to home rather than a not much cop Welshman from Oxford United - loons!

It's absolutely mental. He hadn't even established himself here at Oxford and he went to Serie B and Verona where I saw him looking very glum at Ternana v Hellas and now he's out of his depth at Wolves.

Not the ideal start to what was a promising British based footballing career.

I thought there was one around here somewhere! I've been flicking through the Season with Verona book again recently, I remember quite enjoying it when I first read it but now it just gets a bit tiring. The author is just a bit of a gimp, trying desperatly to avoid condemning the explicit racist behaviour of the Curva with endless sociological clap trap. I can just about work out what he's going on about most of the time but why he's going on about it I've no idea. Full of superfluous rubbish, you can tell he's desperate to shout I'm a university academic you know, I'm not just someone writing a football diary! One of the things that makes me laugh/annoys is his son, I think he's supposed to be about 10 something like that, the bloke's always quoting his son saying things like "I'll die if the ref gives a penalty" - eh?! You're ten mate! If I had a son that age and he said stuff like that I'd tell him to shut up you daft primadonna!

I also re-read the book recently and actually still enjoyed it!Of course he does like to show that he is an academic but tries to be a real fan I think by saying what his son says and thinks.
Anyway I will be in Turin on Saturday to support Hellas.Actually heading over to see MIlan but taking advantage of the Saturday game as well.

Nice one - that's what I'm planning to do make a really long football weekend in Italy, take in a Saturday game and a Sunday one. The whole over academic aspect of the book does get on my nerves, I don't know if this guy ever had an editor but if he did he was a pretty naff one. To be honest the big thing is the racism stuff. I'm really not trying to be pious here but I don't understand how an intelligent person can sit amongst a thousand odd people making monkey noises and keep going back to it. He usually waffled away with a load of cod sociological explanations and justifications for it. I've been to games before (not for a fair few years mind) and someone's shouted something racist and I've felt well uncomfortable like I don't want to be there anymore or something. I know not all Hellas fans are racist before anyone says it, I like Hellas (even though they're useless). Have a good time at the game!

Yes his attitude to racism was rather strange. On one hand he appeared to be detached from the situation almost pretending to be the dumb foreigner yet on the other he liked to be one of the boys?
I did hear someone being caled racist recently at the Killie-ceptic game for calling Nakamura a "wee paper folding bam!".Not sure thats very racist in the real sense?
yep Im sure we will enjoy the weekend.Earlier this year we managed to take in both a Milan and Parma game which was fantastic. Not sure what to expect from Milan though?

Yeah that's what I mean exactly about his attitude to the racism stuff - he never once wrote these people are idiots. I think he sort of assumes if he did that he'd somehow not be supporting Hellas properly - that's dog droppings in my opinion. I support Inter but those goons that gave that Zoro (not the geezer with the sword) racist stick are idiots, I don't think that means I support Inter any less. He didn't have to sit amongst them all - he has nothing but contempt for the Tribuna seats - I guess it's like here, they're fairly quiet and a lot of the prawn sandwich brigade sit there but I think I'd rather be part of them than a group making monkey noises every two minutes.

Paper folding bam? Seems to me about as racist as calling an Englishman a tea drinking wimp! i.e. not very. Mind you these crazy days I think teachers get told off if they say "blackboard" so I'm sure some PC gimp would take offence to it Roll Eyes

*gives thread a whiff of life*

I've liked Verona ever since I read the book, "A Season With Verona". Charming club, with lots of excellent players having played in the gialloblu shirt, such as Elkjær, Garella, Briegel and Tricella. What's there not to like about this club?

Also, Verona seems to be on it's way out of relegation now, hopefully!

Funny club Hellas! They get more interest on this forum than a lot of Serie A clubs - mind you considering more people usually turn up for a Keynsham Town game than at most Serie A games that's maybe not that surprising. Good win at the weekend although I wouldn't say they're out of relegation trouble yet! This is Hellas we're talking about - the even worse Italian version of Manchester City!

Oh no please dont compare them to Man City! Hellas are my Italian team because of my parents. I asked them to bring me back a football top from their italian holiday. I didn't want a Milan top or Inter or Roma etc. They returned with a Hellas one. I followed their results and then stumbled on the Tim Parks book. This cemented my affections. I hope to take in a game, probably next season now. I do like Italian football.

I thought Verona was a nice place when I went - not far from Venice and a relief from all the crowds there. It does seem like Tim Parks describes it - well to do and maybe a bit stuffy though. I remember looking for a Chievo or Hellas shirt when I was there but couldn't find anything - I bought a sex pistols t-shirt, I don't even like them or punk much - it does look pretty cool though a fashionista friend has offered to buy it off me for a fair few quid - fool! I bought it for about two pound fifty!

When were you last there? I know Hellas have a store in town because that's where my top came from. Unsure about Chievo. Verona looks quite a good place, not into my Shakespeare though.

Hellas grabbed a late winners against Vi*enz* at the weekend. Their official website is crazy for the celebrations! Wish my Italian was more than a mere beginner. Hopefully they'll keep climbing serie B

I was there a good few years back now - 3 or 4 maybe. Yeah the romeo and juliet balcony place was busy - it had walls leading up to it covered in graffitti - I've got a bookmark of it somewhere. They've done the double over Vicenza this seasons then, I think? At least two bright sparks in a under achieving usual season I suppose!

In a poor season, I noticed that Gianluca Pegolo(keeper) is one of the rising starts of serie b, probably all of the practise he gets. This was mentioned in the calcio Italia magazine.

Secondly, I know they signed Marco Ferrante and he's a player I've heard of but don't know much about. Has had spells in serie A.

I think he's played for half the clubs in Serie A! He's a bit of a legend at Torino is Ferrante - he must be about 40 odd by now (no joke) and apart from a couple seasons I don't think he was ever any really great shakes but hey he might prove me wrong (I very much doubt it though!)
