Interested to know other peoples experiences of the World Cup Final, eg. how far you travelled, how you got tickets, what you thought of the stadium etc....
I had no intention of going until a voice in my head telling me not to miss the opportunity 24 hours before kick-off!!
Ah yes, the Missouri chapter of my life finished in June. Shame the USA held the world cup when I was too young. I can't be bothered with the football but South Africa 2010 will be worth a visit for tourism alone.
St. Louis is the armpit of America, it took me days to adjust to the summer heat and humidity. Luckily things are a bit cooler up at Lake Michigan but I don't envy you in winter!
Such a shame that we didn't get a White Sox-Cards World Series last year. Damn Astros.
No, but I was lucky enough to see it on the tv, which was good enough for me. I was supposed to be working that evening, but I managed to get one of the guys coming back to work to cover my shift. Thanks a lot Mike.
I was only a couple of months old when we won the last World Cup so I was glad to be able to see this one.
I went by coach to the final from South East England. We left at 8pm on the saturday & arrived on the sunday at 2pm. I was prepared to pay 1000 euros for a ticket but it was chaos in Berlin. Ended up watching the game at the fan zone. Atmosphere was excellent but if I had known I could not get a ticket would have gone to Rome.
Left on the monday by coach from Berlin. A party atmosphere on the coach as we had just won the world cup. Didnt get back until 2am Tuesday morning but it was worth it!
Champions of World...now we need to win the European championships.
Managed to find the last seat on a jet going from Birmingham to Berlin sunday luchtime. Cost me a bit and I didn't even know if I'd get a ticket. Sat next to ex-liverpool player Phil Thompson on the plane, Steve Staunton behind me and Andy Townsend a bit further down....rest of plane full of journalists in suits - I was the only one in an Italy top!
When I got to the stadium at about 4pm touts were asking for about 2000 euros for cat 3/4 seats and I only had 1300 euros left. After circumnavigating the stadium about 5 times in the searing heat I eventually got a cat 2 ticket with about half an hour to spare for 1100 euros and luckily it was genuine -met a couple of english guys who spent similar amounts on dud tickets so although it cost me I feel very lucky !! Still paying off the trip now but chance of a lifetime....
Talk about corporate sh*theads!! I found out at work today that two women got complimentaries on behalf of the company and it just so happens that they know nothing about football and have seldom been to a football match at any level. Then I felt for the thousands of people who would've done anything to get inside.
I remember waking round the stadium thinking I wasn't going to get in and just seeing lots of american and japanese corporate muppets with their VIP entrance tickets round there necks.
Where's the justice in that? - it's not as if they know anything about the game let alone have any real passion for any of the two sides involved....
