Hi everyone, I'm in my 3rd year of uni at Leeds and doing my dissertation piece on how media portrayals of women in the mass media may effect women and their body image.
-I'm trying to find out whether women compare themselves to women in the mass media such as in adverts and in the magazines and does this effect self esteem? -Is this the route problem with low self esteem and negative body image concerning women today or is it something else? -Would you prefer to see normal, non-models women in adverts, or is it the glamour of models thats entices you? -Would using 'real' women make you buy products more so and help with a more healthy body image? -How successful is the Dove campaign in your eyes and is this the way forward for advertising? Should other beauty companies continue in this direction? -What should change concerning advertising? -Are shows like 'How to look good naked' helping you to feel better about yourself and why? -Why have adverts felt the need to change now such as with the Dove campaign and now Nivea?? -Why are programmes like 10 years younger and How to look good naked geared at women opposed to men, there being hardly any programmes of this nature for men?
Any trains of thought or other suggestions would be most appreciated, your gender, location and age would help me greatly also. Any insights or views will help me lots in trying to pin point some of my answers and give me some interesting insights. Thanking you
