This is a discussion for the geeks out there, how many references did you spot in the IT dept. From what i can remember i found the following:-

  • The Flying Spagetti Monster
  • Roy's RTFM t-shirt
  • The perl Camel
  • A stewie (from family guy) like doll
  • Those old compaq machines that everyone seems to have (the ones with the curved front)
  • I think (don't hold me to it) a 'all your base' poster

And that is all i can remeber, ill have to watch it again. So what references did you see?

The only things I noticed were various old computers and the RTFM t-shirt.

didn't notice any real geeky references at all.

LOL I just lobbed an EN400 out the back garden. Keeping the corner of the tarp down on my motorbike. Knew I'd kept it in the garage for a reason.

Did anyone else spot the quote from Mark Russinovich's blog when Moss first appears?

Moss:
quote:
"You see the driver hooks a function by patching the system call table, so its not safe to unload it unless another thread is about to jump in there and do its stuff, and you don't want to end up in the middle of invalid memory.

Mark R:
quote:
"It's never safe to unload a driver that patches the system call table since some thread might be just about to execute the first instruction of a hooked function when the driver unloads; if that happens the thread will jump into invalid memory."

Also, "MP3 is not a crime" and "Fair use has a posse" stickers on the door?

The posters on Roy's desk are Alien 8 and Underwurlde by Ultimate play the game (later Rare), a company based in Ashby de la Zouch who produced probably the finest games for the ZX Spectrum in the '80s.

Don't forget the many, prominent EFF stickers.

Also, Roy's monitor had a browser open at Slashdot in the second episode.

Though the use of MSIE in episode three was pretty ungeeky. Razz

What about Moss's name

Named after the MOS 6502 processor, which was the first cheaply avaliable CPU and started the whole PC revolution as it was cheap to aquire which meant the prices of pre-built computers dropped and what the good old C64 ran on.

Or at least thats what i like to think Smile

The blue crash screen on the title sequence is a Kernel panic on Red Hat Linux, as evidenced by it trying to run Anaconda to install things. Shame Neil Hannon's music uses a *Windows* error sound at this point of the tune...

[Now that *is* geeky :-)]

yes... he does... you see it clearly on episode 5 sitting at the edge of the desk (almost a 'jumper' pose) and an earlier one too sort of on it's side, carelessly placed, like it was just thrown down...
