Just watched the fantastic opening episode of this great comedy but what's this near the end? A huge white box popping up to let us know that next is Big Brother. Why oh why oh why oh why do CH4 (and other channels) do this? Firstly, I would rather cut my own head off using rusty cheese-wire before watching one micro-second of BB and secondly I wouldn't mind once in a while seeing a programme all the way through without these annoying pop-ups (we get enough of those on the net). I probably won't bother watching the rest of the series and wait for it on DVD - at least then I can watch it without being bombarded by 'Coming Next' boxes. It's bad enough when the cretins at these channels do 'Coming Next' voiceovers over the closing credits of shows. What's next? Subliminal messages that flash at us throughout the shows every 10 seconds or maybe a channel employee to shout it through our letterboxes because yes most of us THAT stupid and can't work out listing magazines or on-screen menus to see what's a-coming. You probably do it so we don't reach for the remote, but I certainly do and usually propel it from my hand directly at the TV.
Please please please times 1,000,000 stop treating people like their brains are made of dough (I know BB fans wish their brains were as advanced as dough) but come on?!?!

i dont think its that much of a big deal, i certainly won't be waiting for it to come out on dvd to watch it, its too good to miss out on...i do know what you mean though, about the pop ups, but that one was only over the credits, atleast it didn't cut into the program, now that would have been bad!
And also i think what you said about BB fans was a bit mean...i watch BB, but i love the IT crowd more, so is my brain made of dough?

The pop-ups don't bother me so much, but it would be better if they waited until after the programme to advertise it.
We already know it's coming. It comes at that time every Friday.

CH4 Is just scared that their viewers will 'forget'that BB is next up and maybe want to turn their brains into sponge. Apparently this year BB i so boring that even BB4 is beating it...

Well said jonesthebond. The reason I came to look at the forums today (and to join) was to see if anyone else was as p'd off about this as I am. They did the same thing in last Thursday's episode of 'My Name Is Earl'! I've written to Channel 4 to complain.

The people behind this tacky gimmick won't be finished until commercial television in Britain is as unwatchable as it is in the USA. They are soulless marketing automatons who have no business being in control of media.

Am I overreacting? It probably seems so but I can see how this drip by drip erosion of our quality broadcasters will lead to nothing but lowest common denominator television. Things like the growing habit of showing the channel logo in the corner of the screen and making announcements over the end credits are bad enough but (what amounts to) forcing pop-up ads on us during the programmes is an intrusion too far. I urge everyone reading this to make a complaint to Channel 4 and see if we can't get this practice stopped before it gets too established.
