He was actually born Chaim Klein Witz, when he moved to New York from Israel in 1957 he changed it to Gene Klein, he thought the name 'Gene' sounded more American than 'Chaim. Then in the late sixties he changed again for the final time this time to Gene Simmons.

Did anybody else know that?

Gene is actually a really classy guy. I had the pleasure of meeting him and Paul Stanley when they toured here back in the 80's. They were without Ace and Pete tho and Vinnie and Eric were in their places. I wish I'd met the whole original band.

Gene was the perfect gent.. (who'd believe it!!) and had loads of time for the kids. Paul was only interested in females over 16 with at least 36DD breasts!!

I guess traditional Jewish names don't go down as well for rock stars!!

i did know he was called chaim witz as it was on familly guy once, but there is also a talking dog and baby taking over the world so i darent really trust that show
