Is he motivated by self interest, because he believes he will gain from doing good?

Or is he motivated because he truly repents for his bad actions?

I think he's motivated by self interest as he thinks good things will happen to him if he can fix all the bad stuff.

So, will he really get good karma? If he's not doing things for the sake of doing good, but only out of selfishness?

We know what Karma is, it was supposed to provoke debate.

It's not really a question with any "right" answer, in the same fashion as Euthyrphro's dilemma.

you have a good point, sars. firstly, I don't think Earl is doing this so good things happen to him, more to stop the bad things happening to him.

secondly, I believe Earl may have started the list out of self-interest, but he sure isn't gonna end it that way.

you see its more a journey of discovery and understanding. so in a way it doesn't matter what his initial intention was, he will still learn a lot of lessons. so in the end its more about self-development. which is not a selfish thing.

But surely it's about what Earl thinks is Karma, which is probably completly different.
