you have a good point, sars. firstly, I don't think Earl is doing this so good things happen to him, more to stop the bad things happening to him.
secondly, I believe Earl may have started the list out of self-interest, but he sure isn't gonna end it that way.
you see its more a journey of discovery and understanding. so in a way it doesn't matter what his initial intention was, he will still learn a lot of lessons. so in the end its more about self-development. which is not a selfish thing.
