The obvious point is that we (the UK viewer) find it harder to empathise with 'a bunch of rednecks' (i use the phrase for dramatic effect) vs coffee culture Friends etc. However i don't recall The Dukes of Hazzard doing too badly in the ratings.....

I like the programme, the wry script, strong characters and the amusing asides. However i hear that viewer rating figures have not been fantastic. I just wondered what other people thought.

What makes you think it's not popular in the UK? just because not many people are posting about it in here, doesn't meen to say it's not as popular, from what I'm aware of, the ratings are going pretty good for a new American T.V. Show here in the UK...

I would be interested in seeing any audience share splits you can find. I have read various newspaper articles that critically rate the show but have mentioned that C4 were disappointed with the audience numbers. I also note that there has not been much consistency with the time of transmission - another sign that audiences are not super high.

I got this from someones Post in DS:

My Name is Earl - 2.4 million

Invasion ep1 - 3.7 million
Invasion ep2 - 3.1 million
Invasion ep3 (e4) - 703,000

This was a comparison with the first 3 Episodes... to be honest I think the Rating for my Name is Earl ain't to bad, but then again this is no real hard proof about the ratings, I will look and keep you Updated.

I agree - the only time i get concerned over a show's popularity (or lack thereof) is when it stops it getting shown.

I think it's one of the funniest things on the box and definitely one of the best imports for many years. Unfortunately, it's target audience is very much in the boozer at the time it's shown, and it doesn't get repeated on C4. Friends/Will & Grace etc, all had earlier slots to catch people before going out. I suppose Frasier suffered UK in the same slot, but that had had a chance to build a following.

Friday night is a ridiculous night to have shows like this on. Surely the target demographic is 18-30 and any 18-30 year-old with a life is not sat at home watching TV on a Friday night.

Secondly, it doesn't help the way C4 shift it continually around in the schedule. Pick a time and stick to it dullards.

I love My Name is Earl, but I haven't seen it for at least the last 4 weeks due to other commitments.

Can't say I'd noticed that it wasn't on at the same time each week, but it is repeated (on E4 Sunday I think).

I love my name is earl but friday is a stupid night to have it on, even if i'm in i don't watch it as we normally have people round and we'd rather listen to music and chat then watch TV.
When i do catch it it's on a E4 repeat but i don't always seem to be able to catch them, one day i'll see them all.

I am not sure I agree with the comments that Friday night is a stupid time to show it. I remember that Friends was on every Friday and it did really well.

From a personal point of view, I don't watch TV on a Friday normally and it would suit me better on another night!

I think this prog is funny but it is shown at so many different times it is confusing. I go to watch it and it's one of the ones I have seen!

I like it - but it takes me ages to 'settle into' watching a new show. With Friends, you ain't got a choice, because it's always on (as was Frasier in its heyday). You are BOUND to catch an episode at one point or another.

With My Name Is Earl, you're not so likely just to 'catch' an episode and it takes two or three to get the hang of any show, so not many people are getting that chance.

I set my video recorder for it now Smile
