Now this one really depends on which season you mean.
The Season 1 Lord John Marbury was excellent. The Season 6 Lord John Marbury, despite being played by the same actor, had become a characatuer of the season 1 character.
On that basis, I would have to say Lord John Marbury. I actually quite like Bruno.
Kate Harper or Nancy McNally

Celestial Navigation or The Supremes?
Kate is much better in season 6, where the fringe has gone. She (almost) looks hot in fact.
As for best ep, Celestial Navigation is my favourite, most watched episode from all 6 seasons. The Supremes makes my top 5 though.
Manchester 1 & 2 or 20 Hours in America 1 & 2

hm, I'm intrigued to see season 6 Kate now. unfortunately, being a poor student, I can't quite scrape together enough to buy the dvds yet, so I'm having to bribe my parents to tape it on More4. life is hard.
as for Manchester vs 20 Hours in America.. that's tough. the time zone thing in 20 Hours is classic. but I just love Toby altering the signs in Manchester, so I think it's going to have to be Manchester 1 & 2.
100,000 Airplanes or Bartlet's Third State of the Union?

Who's hotter for the girls; Sam or Josh? for the guys; Donna or Zoey?
Does it have to be Donna or Zoe? Can't I vote for Ainsley?
Zoe looks pretty good in season 6, so I will have to sey her.
I am in comfortable enough with my sexuality to also say that Josh has the edge over Sam.

errm.. season 1 C.J or season 5 C.J ? (and don't spoil me about season 6 C.J, Nick!)
Season 1 CJ - I like the fact that she was a little naive, but prepared to stand up for herself.
As for season 6 CJ...! Wow!
(couldn't resist, but won't give too much away!)
Bit of a broader question, so will need a broader answer:
Season 1 cliffhanger: the shootings or Season 2 cliffhanger: will he / wont he run again or Season 3 cliffhanger: the Shareef shooting (not really a cliffhanger I guess) or Season 4 cliffhanger: Bartlet taking the 25th or Season 5 cliffhanger: Palestinian authority outwitting the administration into holding a peace summit

I think it has to be the shootings for me. What Kind of Day has it been still makes my heart race, and ITSOTG still makes me cry. the others just don't match up. the end of season 4 was good, though I much prefered the end of Commencement as a finale to the end of 25. the end of season 5 was good too, but I'm not quite as anxious to see the season 6 opener as I was with season 2. I still don't really like the Shareef plotline. and the will he run, won't he run cliffhanger wasn't really supposed to be a cliffhanger. Two Cathedrals is powerful stuff, but it doesn't have the lasting effect that What kind of day has it been still has.
I thought long and hard about this one. For many people, Two Cathedrals is one of the finest episodes of all. To be honest, whilst I like it, it would probably not even make my top ten. That rules season 2 out.
The final episode of season 3 was a good one. I just love the "Crime, boy I don't know" passage. Not so much of a cliffhanger though.
The final ep of season 5 was good too. I think that is probably the best final scene of all the episodes, not just the season. The way it depicts the pressures of being the President was outstanding. Not really a cliffhanger though.
That leaves season 4 and 1.
I am with you on the "25" episode. The better season finale would have been the scene in Commencement where Leo tells the president - the look on his face, and the way Abby dropped the photo's. Top stuff.
So that leaves season 1. Probably the finest of all the cliffhangers, in the sense that you had no idea how it was all going to turn out. Great drama, and the first two episodes of season 2 really developed the story.
So there you go - my vote goes for season 1.
So. Next question.
Is TWW better, worse or just different to the Aaron Sorkin seasons under John Wells?

Its worse. Wells emphasises each character getting more or less equal screen time, Sorkin never bothered with this, screen time was alocated depending on plot which was a better system. Also while the show remains one of the best written ever, Sorkin's flair for sharp dialogue is missed. On the other hand, I do think the post Sorkin years are better in terms of character development.

the John wells vs Aaron Sorkin thing is difficult. I'm inclined to say they're just different, but most of the season 5 episodes besides The Supremes, No Exit, Gaza and Memorial Day didn't impress me that much. there are odd moments - I love the President walking up to Haffley's office in Shutdown. and I like drunk Toby in The stormy present. Disaster Relief I quite liked the first time I watched it, but I can't bring myself to watch it a third time.
my problem is that I don't know how Sorkin would've progressed the show. I don't know what it could've been like. I don't know if season 5 would've been not quite as good as the others anyway, simply by virtue of being the 5th season. TV shows run out of steam, in my experience. and they rarely maintain that first flash of brilliance of the first 2 seasons or so. maybe it's because the writers and the crew aren't as excited about the show, because it's not a new idea anymore. maybe they run out of their better ideas. maybe everyone becomes a little complacent.
so. to find some sort of vague-ish conclusion from that rambling mess, I would say TWW is different under John Wells, but that the show overall is suffering the inevitable effects of age. will that do?

I agree that the show was destined to run out of steam at some point, and that it had shown signs during season 4 that it was on it's way. The first third of season 5 was a bit pants in my view, but there were some excellent episodes later in the series. Obvious exception to that being Access!
However, having had the benefit of seeing season 6, the show is almost back to its best. Sure, the format is slightly different, and it is strange to see familiar characters facing unfamiliar situations, but there seems to be a real spark. As always, there are some episodes that do not have the same high quality, but name me a show where you don't have episodes that you don't care that much for.
Of course, it could be that I just had withdrawal symptoms from the lack of new episodes, and that season 6 is actually complete tosh, but I don't think that is the case. I think it is just different. It was always going to be difficult taking over the show, and John Wells had a lot of work to do to make season 5 the transitional series. He has got to grips with it, and season 6 is the first chance he has had to mould the show to his image.
Enough of my inane ramblings - CJ after root canal or Sam telling the bosses daughter he accidently slept with a prostitute?

I think you're right about season 5 being transitional. Getting a show and it's characters to a point where things can change and new things can happen to inject life and spark back into a series is genuinely difficult, I think. I haven't seen season 6, and perhaps it is unfair say that the show suffering with age based on my view of season 5. maybe it'll mature and improve.
CJ after root canal. it's one of the reasons Celestial Navigation is one of my favourite episodes.
I agree also. The show needed a change in direction somehow and I guess with the subject nature it was going to happen. Don't know how many people have seen series 6 but it is still brilliant. It may miss out on Sorkin's snappy writing but jeez its knocks the socks of most things British i'm afraid to say.
Would love to say its Bingo Bob but Hoynes has the gravitas and is pretty darn commanding..
Much as I loved Fitz, has to be ed and larry. Those 2 crack me up! Much underused, but perhaps that is why they are so great.
