I guess most of you who ordered the DVD have at least watched the first couple of discs, if not more.
There was a lot of talk in the US about declining standards as John Wells continued to develop the show in his own image, but I would be interested in peoples thoughts as to how season 6 shapes up.
In my own view, the quality of the acting has been superb, the storylines are excellent, and there has been a very welcome return to regular comedy moments.
I was concerned that Season 6 would leave me feeling a little flat, but so far that has not happened. My only slight concern (I am up to 6.10 at the moment) is that it felt a bit wierd seeing Donna and Josh go their seperate ways. Seeing Josh standing there when Santos declared was very strange. I would have liked to have seen the bit where he told Bartlet, but I can see why it was left to your imagination as well.
Anyway, let me know what you think.

Josh: "It was this stupid round robin. They said if the President has a plan to fight inflation, is it fair to keep it a secret. I said of course not..."
Bartlet: "So not only did you invent a secret plan to fight inflation, now you're telling me you don't support it?" __________________________________________________________

whoo, finally got my hands on season 6, courtesy of the parents. am about half way through now. enjoying it, though it is definately different to Sorkin's TWW.
I do have one niggle.. am I alone in thinking that Will is getting increasingly irritating?
I'm also about half-way through season 6 and im v impressed. im hoping (against hope i think!) that josh and donna will get it together now they have gone their seperate ways. will became slightly irritating to me last series and moreso the beginning of this. however, what he said to leo about russell gives some insight into why he's been acting like he has
What did everyone make of CJ being made COS? I love Leo, but thought it was a v interesting character development for her. She wouldnt have been the obvious choice, but after a shaky start she is v good at the job. Romance related storylines have never been a big element of the show, but think S6 would have been better with more of this and few more funny one liners, as it gets a bit dry at times.

I think s6 has been one of the best season's ever. I don't really think the argument about declining standards post-Sorkin holds up. The first two seasons were peerless, but let's not forget that he wrote s3 which I think stinks (i've watched it a couple of times, and it doesn't improve). I always thought the best episodes were the ones high in drama and wit - the ones with the opaque storylines were never my favourites anyway. John Wells, and his legion of co-writers no doubt, have definitely maintained the high standards that we all love so much.
s6 is radical in terms of character development, but given that they have been working together for almost eight years and can't carry on ad infinitum, the changes are welcome and realistic. For those of you that haven't yet watched the entire season, let me assure you that the final few eps are as emotional and dramatic as ever, and there's a great cliffhanger, which sets up s7 nicely.
I read somewhere that the actor who plays Will Bailey has been in every Sorkin tv/film thing, but i've never liked his character in TWW. He's morose and makes Charlie seem three dimensional.
The development of Will as a character has never really taken off. He had one good episode in Season 5 (No Exit), and nothing else since season 4.
For those not lucky enough to get access to it, let me just tease you by saying that Season 7 (based on the 4 episodes that I have seen) is quite possibly the best of the lot.

Very interested in all you comments to date. Have watched all of series 6 now and agree that it's good. I'm not convinced that the dialogue has ever been as witty or fast paced since Sorkin left. Josh and Donna would be one good example of this - they lost thier banter, but it was replaced with a strong sense of uneasiness between the two of them (an undercurrent of something more than friendship, post Germany?). I think splitting them was an interesting way to go, but allows Donna to be her own person, away from Josh's shadow. If the writers ever do decide to do something with them, they do need to give Donna equal footing with Josh. There are also some wonderful non-J/D moments, too. I'm thinking King Corn and the hotel rooms, with Ryan Adams' song "Desire" playing!
I know lots of people feel Sorkin's demise was a great loss to the show and to some extent it was, but the result was a show that was really "shook up" and taken in a new direction. Some of the episodes in series 5, for example have been the best in the entire series (I'm thinking, Shutdown and The Supremes).
Series 6 manages to shake things up once again. Was anyone else as shocked by Jed's treatment of Leo in The Birnam Wood?
Yes, Will is very annoying and is it my imagination or was he trying to come on to Donna in one episode? Ugh...
I don't know who will win, but my money is on Santos. I'm not sure about the idea of a Republican President (isn't one enough?). It wouldn't suprise me though, if that's how the writers decided to take the show, but what would happen to Josh? Would they plan on cutting loose all the staff and starting all over? Does anyone know if they plan to go to an eight season or not?
JOSH: I'm thinking of firing you. DONNA: You fired me twice already tonight--I'm impervious.
I've just finished the series..and while I enjoyed it a lot (how gorgeous is Jimmy Smits!?). I thought the characters went in some really wierd directions. Toby just dissapeared. He was one of my favourite characters..I loved his dry wit, now he's just morose. CJ COS? come on..wouldn't she be about 5th in line? I hate Minnie Mouse woman..even more irritating than Ainsley.
And Leo's had a heart attack and the presidents in a wheelchair and Donna goes to work for Bingo Bob?
Yeah... there's a lot of "out of character" stuff going on.
Amen to Minnie Mouse...what's with the voice. Did you know that Kristen Chenoweth is a singer? Have an album of hers...it's mostly American standards like Duke Ellington and Gershwin...she sings suprisingly well for someone who sounds likes she's been playing around with helium balloons!!!
I've seen peeks at the first few eps of series 7 - all I can say is that there are more surprises to come....

I like the character of Annabeth, but agree her voice his so irritating. The way she interacts with Toby is funny, and its always good to see young, intelligent female characters in TV.
