Because C4 is so chock full of high quality programming that something of the quality of NYPD Blue needs to be shunted to a minor channel, that's why :-)

Season 10? We've got another 2 series to see as well yet. Season 11 and 12. 12 was shown 2005 in the USA. Looking forward to those as well. Mind you the way ch 4 shows these. We could be waiting a while.

If this morsel thrown to us by this person from Channel Four is real, the one question which begs to be asked is, how long will the interval be between the upcoming Series TEN and the following Series 11 and 12? With a two year gap between 9 and 10, a run lasting five and a half months. That will take us to Nov 06. Then (MAYBE) start again Nov/Dec 08 and run until June 09 and then start Series 12 in June/July 2011. Channel Four are going to have to run the three series consecutively before they lose their tag of DOG In the Manger Channel!!
The things I remember are Junior and Sipowitz being partners, and Junior's dad not liking it, but that might be because Dennis Frantz and Senior are settling to dislike in Hill STreet at the moment ...
Anyhow, I just want it back! Am counting the days.

the comments re NYPD Blue resuming on More4 are bang on. Last year, I badgered the hell out of Jeff Ford, Stuart Cosgrove and Andy Duncan all @C4 about this and after much huffing & puffing April 06 was a definite green light.
The answer as to why C4 dumped the show can be found in the schedules; BBrother and all the ad nauseum spin offs, constant repeats (of repeats lol. Another possibility is the lack of an advertising sponsor during the prog; ER last year had no sponsor (prev Renault) but returns this year with those 118 dimbulbs. Notice how 4 ad breaks are crammed into the hour now ?
Thanks, Dejavu, that's made everything clear. I couldn't think of any valid reason why they'd hold on to a series for so long and risk losing it's fan base.
It's so frustrating that C4 has turned from being a channel for ground-breaking television to the no-brain channel that it's become. BB, the Games and 100 Greatest anyone? Do me a favour!
Will there be an official announcement of the April 06 start date, or will they just leave us to hunt the TV schedules for the next few weeks? It would be good if they repeated the last couple of episodes from the previous series to get us back up to speed, but I won't bank on it.
