Okay, here's an idea for a thread for those of you who seem to find that lines from the show stick with you long after the show is over.

Simply guess who said the line and then suggest a line of your own for the next person.

Extra brownie points for naming the episode, who the line was addressed to or any info about the scene in which the line was spoken...

JOSH: I'm thinking of firing you.
DONNA: You fired me twice already tonight--I'm impervious.

Here's one for starters but an extra jammie dodger for the person who can say who this was said to and what that person's reply was:

We should organize a staff field trip to Shenandoah! I could even act as a guide! What do you think?

Yeah, well done! Josh's reply was, "Good a place as any to dump your body!" Ironically, after Bartlet had spent and entire evening boring Josh with info on the National Parks, Josh came up with a solution to save some land by designating it a National Park, so I guess it was time well spent after all!!!

Yours is CJ talking to Toby and, although I can't remember the episode, I do remember Toby replying, "Well when don't I?" - ah, so cute!!! Wink

What about this one - who said it and of whom was the character speaking:

We can hide the women, but the man deserves a drink.

Well done - it was Lord John Marbury! Love how he calls Leo "Gerald" all the time... Smile

Great quote, Beezle! It's Josh talking to Toby in the season 5 episode "The Supremes" - which is a great ep, by the way. He's talking about Evelyn Baker-Lang (played by Glenn Close), who becomes the nominee for Chief Justice, United States Supreme Court. For those of you who have been keeping up with American politics drama seems to be mirroring life of late!

What about this one?

She is... well, one of the special people. Roll Eyes

Okay, so no one has worked it out, so here's a clue - he's speaking to a woman we only see in one episode. He was unhappy about something she was wearing and instructed Donna to tell her to get rid of it...

Cant remember the ep, but Josh wants a staffer to stop wearing a Star Trek badge. In the end he talks to the woman, and is v nice to her about it.

OK next one.....

Well done on the Star Trek line - I love the scene between the ST fan (Janice) and Josh - that whole thing about having a fetish - it was VERY FUNNY... infact, the whole ep was full of delightful moments - Josh and Commander Wonderful - both those scenes with Jack Reese were great, but the best moment was that bit where Josh said to Donna, "Those stories would make me like you" and she completely missed his face as he said it - one of the only times he's given himself away and she missed it, saying something like "You like everybody." *sigh* a great moment.

Okay, what about this one, then:

Yeah, I... I didn't know... what it was at the time... I... I liked the word.

Josh to Bartlett after he's admitted he wanted to be a ballerina. I just love the part where CJ calls him Giselle later.

Who said 'Well..that's 20 minutes of my life I'm never going to get back'?

It's Toby to Sam in Galileo - Sam is boring him with the details of his non-existant love life with Mallory and how he never called her after the picture of he and Lori ended up in the newspaper. He finished his little tirad with "I don't even know what dating is anymore." What's funny is that Toby doesn't even pretend to be interested!!!! Big Grin

Okay, how about this one:

I don't understand, did you trip over something?

Yeah, Toby is a scream - he's so incredibly dry - so most things sound funny coming from him!!!

This, of course, is, I think, another of his classic moments - he's talking to Mandy in the season 1 episode "Six Meetings Before Lunch". What I love about this scene is the fact that he comes into work all sunny and happy and very un-Toby like and wonders what it will be that will reduce him to his usual state of sullennes. Enter Mandy, wanting to know if he could help her find a panda bear for the zoo.

Toby: I feel like I've lost 180 pounds. I am smiling, I am laughing, I am enjoying the people I work with - I gotta snap outta this. What's on your mind?
Mandy: I want you to help me get the Chinese to give us a new panda bear to replace Lum Lum.
Toby: Well that did the trick

Okay next one:

Take seventeen looked like it was going to be a keeper, till he went on elocution safari during the word 'protuberance'.

Hey, welcome to our little game, McCoisty!!! Big Grin

I really like your choice of quote - it's Leo to CJ. They're discussing a charity called Heiffer International. CJ agrees to a publicity shot showing the President and a cow, but Ron the goat turns up instead. I think Leo continued to turn the knife by suggesting that the snakes would lay their eggs in her glove box!!!

Okay, what about this one?

If somebody blows up the Capitol Building, I'd imagine I'd move up a few slots.

thats donna to Josh, before the state of the union, "He Shall, From Time to Time..."

i love the speech at the end of that show when Jed is explaining to the secretary who is left in the oval office what to do if there is a terrorist attack..... "do you have a best friend? is he smarter than you?... thats your chief of staff."

okay next one...

Yeah, that speech is so great. If I remember rightly, Leo had been having a bad time and he unintenionally hears what Jed says and is really touched - I guess the most honest of compliments are the ones we're not meant to hear... Present

Yours is from season 2 - Shibboleth. CJ has had 2 turkeys dumped on her for thanksgiving and has to choose which one is the most photogenic of the 2 for the photo ops. "The winner gets a full life at a children's zoo; the runner-up gets eaten." Eek

Okay, try this one:

You know your voice just got really high at the end of that?

strange story!! I really didnt know that one so I looked it up and sure enough its from 02.14 - "The War at Home", which I didnt know as on my DVD of season 2 its the one episode that jumps and skips and is unwatchable!!! to this day it is the ONLY episode of the west wing I have not seen (and that includes season 7).....

hence why i struggled and had to cheat! but no cheating from now on.

ok next one. (dead easy!)

Well, isn't it unny! I thought mine was easy and you had to cheat. You thought yours was and I HAVEN'T a clue!!!! Big Grin I would stick with The War at Home - it's a really good ep for some great Josh/Donna moments, if you like their vibe. Basically, she spends the entire ep (and the previous one) trying to convince Josh to ask Donna out. The conversation goes something like this:

DONNA: "Joey, would you like to go out Friday night?" You know, you have to say it. You have to ask a girl out on a date. You can't just randomly tumble into a girl sideways and hope she breaks up with you soon, the way you always do.
JOSH: Why not?
DONNA: Because you can't.
JOSH: You just said I always do.
DONNA: Josh, I can help you or not help you, it's up to you.
JOSH: Then I absolutely choose not helping me.
DONNA: You want me to ask her out for you?
JOSH: Yeah, that's exactly what I want you to do.
DONNA: Joey--
JOSH: Sit down.

Anyway, this gets Josh thinking and he finally goes to Sam for advice.

JOSH: Can I tell you something strange?
SAM: Okay ...
JOSH: All last night at the phone banks, Donna was telling me I should ask Joey Lucas out.
SAM: You should.
JOSH: Fine. But that aside, what do you make about Donna being the one pushing?
SAM: I don't make anything.
JOSH: You wouldn't think she'd be jealous?
SAM: She goes out with guys--do you get jealous?
JOSH: No.
SAM: See?
JOSH: I don't get jealous.
SAM: So?
JOSH: I don't like it, and usually do everything within my considerable capabilities to sabotage it--
SAM: Yes.
JOSH: Which is why it's ... curious that Donna would do nothing to discourage--and in fact do everything to encourage--a date with Joey Lucas--who quite frankly is a very attractive woman.
SAM: Josh?
JOSH: Yeah.
SAM: You know, your voice just got really high at the end of that.
JOSH: Yeah. Sorry.

So, I really have no ideas about your quote - I'm sorry!!! May need a clue!!! Confused

JOSH: I'm thinking of firing you.

In the meantime, here's one:

You know, I was watching a television program before with a sort of a roving moderator who spoke to a seated panel of young women who were having some sort of problem with their boyfriend, apparently because the boyfriends had all slept with the girlfriends' mothers. Then they brought the boyfriends out and they all fought right there on television. Tell me, these people don't vote do they?

It was Bartlet in his bedroom talking to Josh or possibly Sam after he had been ill i think?

"I didn't want it to be like an episode of I Dream of Jeannie where you now have to save my life or the space/time continuum-"

Yeah - it's after the President has his first MS attack - the one in the Oval office where he breaks the glass pitcher. He's introduced to the joys of daytime TV... I think he says it to Charlie, but I could be wrong!

The I dream of Jeannie quote took me a while to get - I let it mull for a while until it came to me - It was from "In The Shadow of Two Gunmen" - it's Sam to CJ when she realises that Sam has her necklace and, therefore, must have been the one who pushed her to the ground when the shots were fired.

Okay umm...how about this? A jammie dodger to the one who can come up with the reply to this one, too!!!

I hate to stick my head in the lion's mouth, but I've gotta ask you: Were you the Recording Secretary of the Princeton Gilbert and Sullivan Society for two years?

It's from 'And it's surely to their credit' and is said by Sam to Lionel Tribbey.
This is so much fun guys, really gets my brain in gear first thing in the morning! Can't think of any quotes at the moment but I'll post one during the day!
