As far as i'm aware, a suspended sentence means you are given certain guidelines with which to adhere to and if you comply with those guidelines in the 2 year period from sentencing onwards, then your sentence is considered served. It's a measure for offenders not considered a threat to the public. Because Jake hasn't been charged with anything since he was sentenced, he doesn't have to serve time in jail.

If he gets convicted of any offence however minor he will go and serve his prison sentence but if he keeps his nose clean he won't- its kind of like a probation period
