Sam escapes from hospital where he is after being beaten up in jail. He comes back home where Nicole happens to be. As she had rejected him as a brother when she visited him in jail he is still furious at her. He confronts her at the Owens flat, telling her he's back to find Sophie. Out of spite Nicole reveals about Sophie and Russ.
In the next episode Sam is still keeping Nicole in the flat. He has her tied to a chair. He then threatens her with a pan of boiling water until she tells him where Sophie and Russ are. They're at The Dog. He heads over there immediately.
Russ, it turns out, is actually in bed with Mercedes at this time having not gone to meet Sophie yet. Sophie is sitting in The Dog with Mel, O.B, Joe, Olivia and some other students. She gets a call, thinking its Russ, she answers only to hear Sam. The door to the pub then suddenly opens and Sam appears brandishing a can of petrol and a lighter. He sets the pub on fire kiling himself, the Twins, Joe and Olivia.
