Anybody else getting the feeling that Eli might be a figment of Newt's imagination a la A Beautiful Mind.

I haven't watched todays episode yet but I just thought it a bit strange that Eli isn't allowed to meet anybody else?

Yeah I sorta got that feeling aswell. In Newts room they were making quite a racket yet no one heard him? Then when Newt spoke tohim about him being the only person he could speak to after any bad stuff that happens. Could be all in his mind, set off by the argument with Jack in the Dog.

Prolly wont be but it would be a pretty interesting twist...

But didn't Newt already mention Eli earlier on..? Then again, yr point still stands!

He mentioned him to Lauren when they were thinking of running away. But still noone met him. Surely if lauren knew he existed newt would tell her when he turned up?

The more I think about this the more I lean towards him existing only in newts head. He's like a safe place for Newt which makes him feel better about stuff. Newts had a bad life by the sounds of it so it wouldnt suprise me if its all in his head as a way of coping with situations

yeah the more i think, Eli could be real, its just thatNewt hasn't seen him since Eli was in care.

They met when Newt found a body - Newt said DIDN'T cope with it... so finding Sean's body could have triggered Eli's 'appearance' as a way to cope! Esp. as Eli is perhaps a 'hero' figure to Newt.

it would be a great story line. have any other soaps done this story?

I definately get the feeling that Eli is an imaginary friend! And I thought that before I saw this thread so glad to see others think it too! It was the way that Eli just turned up in the alleyway that made me think this. Then the way no-one ever sees him - he goes under a bed or behind a door. Odd...

Neighbours sort of did it. Paul had a brain tumor and had an imagined friend called Fox. But in this case Fox was a symptom of a brain tumor, not of some kind of trauma... I don't know about any other soaps though.

That theory about Eli and Newt is very interesting isn't it, especially as Newt first "befriended" Eli after finding the body of the kid who killed himself in the children's home - Eli said he was the only person Newt would speak to about it, Newt said He DIDN'T deal with the situation and Eli has suddenly reappeared when he finds another body.

"we have some juicy storylines coming up to take us through the summer - late June sees Steph and Max’s wedding plans hanging by a thread and we’ll finally find out if Max gets the happy ending he deserves. well...that does make it seem like Eli is not real and adds a new dimension to Newt. I understand the whole imaginery friends thing though. Sometimes it's nice to have someone there who is always on your side. My friend like that is known as 'Pen and Paper' XD

it be cool to have a scene where newt talkin to him and the credit roll and at the end of the credit we see some else view of newt talkin to himself it be a cool moment
