Genius, this thought had not crossed my mind but it could easily be true. On the other hand, it could just be that Newt isn't telling anyone about Eli because he's meant to be AWOL from the army

Yeh I think so too because apparently they ahdn't seen each other in years. . .so Eli wouldn't have recognised him because he would ahve chnaged over teh years
