How can it not be a good thing to educate people about the dangers of sex? yes its a lovely thing, and it can be very special etc. BUT there is a negative side to it too. It would be incredibly wrong for people to pretend these things dont happen- thats why sti's spread because people are uneducated about them and for a soap to address this matter is in my opinion is excellent. aids/hiv might be something you would rather not think about but unfortunatly that doesnt make it go away, its a massively widespread problem that millions of people die from every year. But if you wish to carry on in your rose tinted bubble then do so, but i hate to say it- your the one whos more likely to get caught in this type of predicament then those who are clued up.

perhaps people who suffer from aids/hiv would appreciate their situation being shown in an educational way so as to encourage tolerance and understanding. the dangers of sex are something that every person needs to know about. when my daughter is old enough she will know everything about sti's - you think your protecting innocence and the "act of love" by not talking about sti's. I think we're protecting our children more by showing and telling them.

Teenagers attitudes to sex would not change in a positive way if all they were shown was the happy side. programmes like hollyoaks have a responsability to their viewers to show these issues. perhaps then after having all the facts they can make an informed decision- then get on with the slushy stuff- because surely your health and your life is more important then romance?

True. But ALL the soaps dot he negatives. what I am saying is maybe if one soap started a trend of safe sexual relationships it might change peoples attitude towards it. If you think about the risks of things you'd never leave your house. The good points of sex far outweigh the bad points.. have none of these stupid soapstars heard of condoms!

thats fair enough but maybe people like myself who have always had a healthy sex life would lik their stories told to educate people. I knew about safe sex when I was 12/13 and my parents never pretended that STI's didn't exist. That education meant that when I was mature enough to have sex and control my sex life I knew what to do and how to keep myself safe. If I had been told about all these diseases when I was 11 it would have seemed disgusting- which it's not.

no but sadly nowadays its not uncommon for 11 year olds to know the ins and outs of sex (no pun intended) and in more cases then people realise- actually have sex. Perhaps making these young kids aware that sex when unprotected can lead to something potentially life threatening will make them realise sex isnt something that should happen so casually. I think if people knew more of the risks they would perhaps not rush into it so much (with the view its always lovey dovey) and then that would lead them to have the healthy sex life you say you have. If you know nothing of the risks- and its important to know the worst case scenarios- you wont think protection is that important. when i asked people at my work about the view of sex education and their children- some of them didnt even know the real details about sti's i think its essential not just for young people but for adults to be aware of these issues

I think it would be a really good story line for Hollyoakes to do HIV.
Alot of young teenagers are having sex nowadays and anything that highlights the dangers of unprotected sex should be shown.
I dont think it is any different to a teen pregnancy story line.
Both are results of unprotected sex.
I hope Hollyoakes does it justice

No. I don't think it will. I don't know that people understand that HIV kills you. You cant take anti- biotics for it... I don't think they will use it

If he gets the HIV I think it would be a good thing, people forget that sleeping with someone can not only make u pregnant it can make you very sick too, best to wear a rain mack then go to a STD clinic and have yrself checked over before loosing the mac!

jade i think your making a commen mistake- hiv and aids arent quite the same thing. its difficult to explain and i cant really be bothered to go into it. but with hiv nowadays you CAN take meds and live a lot longer then you used to, a lot of sufferers who use the medication find they can lead relatively normal/active lives.

Hmm i think its pointless for Rhys 2 get HIV when they already did a STI storyline with Jake and Lisa and Becca...When Jake had his affair.

I just hope that Jake and Becca get back together, with it being Jake's baby in the first place.. I know what she did was unforgivable but he had an affair too and it's clear they both want to be together

i hope it doesn't happen mainly because i don't want sarah to catch it

No story covering something as important as that is pointless!

You can hardly compare HIV to getting thrush or something that can be treated and healed.
This is something that changes your life, your world and everything that you do !
