Derek Halligan, an accomplished jazz singer as well as actor, will play Eamon Fisher - the father of character Kris.

Kris, a cross-dressing bisexual, is played by West Belfast actor Gerard McCarthy who has been involved in some of the soap's most controversial storylines to date.

Derek is the third Northern Ireland actor to be cast in Hollyoaks after Glen Wallace was recruited last year as Kris' brother Malachy in the show.

Sources in Hollyoaks have confirmed that Derek is to begin shooting this summer and that "some explosive scenes are planned" for the family.

A spokesman for Derek said: "I can confirm that Derek has been cast to play Eamon Fisher in Hollyoaks and he is looking forward to the role

I've heard that the storyline with the father is fairly violent. He shuns his sons choices to wear womens clothes etc and beats him up. Dunno if this is true or fake, I heard it while my lil sis was getitn her hair done lolz Hairdressers can sure talk for hours lol
