Craig and Sarah bump into John Paul. The lads cringe as Sarah berates them for not seeing each other for so long, and an awkward Craig ends up inviting John Paul to join them on their night out. Craig is on edge as John Paul questions him about his sexuality.

Everyone is shocked when John Paul announces he's splitting up with Spike. Craig is uneasy as he begins to think of the implications of what he's getting into. He promises to finish with Sarah when he can find the right time.

Craig's understanding of love is relative. The fact that he recognises JP means more to him than Sarah tells us little. The writer's may be keen to skirt as close to blurring the lines as they can, but I don't think that's actually very helpful - it reaches the point where most people just disregard it as soap fantasy and unrealistic - and they could quite easily taint the rest of the storyline with that. I still maintain there's no reason yet to think Craig returns JP's feelings fully, and that whatever comes out of it to say that he's loved him passionately the whole time undermines the whole narrative.

i dnt reck tht craig will split up with sarah, hes jus a pussy lol. he`ll jus play along with it n keep sleepin with JP n then finish with im. coz he asked sarah to move to dublin dint he
i think the last day spoilers say it all. craig realises the implications of what hes getting into and promises to dump sarah when he gets the right chance. but hel never find the right moment to do so. he is not scared of living as a gay man, he suddenly realise that maybe "loving" jp ismt enough. hel no doubt keep putting of the actual dumping of sarah which will eventually lead to the affiar coming out. jp will realise craig has no intention and confront/ out craig or craig will realise that whilst sarah and he are finished, he doent love jp in a sexual way and isnt gay thus still leading to it becoming public knowledge and then to craigs departure eventually. i dont want to burst your bubble but you are conveninently not reading the most inportant thing, craigs actions on that day can be seen as fear of outing them/ him selves/ self but im afraid you have to read between the lines. even if craig does date jp either before it becomes public or after the fact that he has doubts are significant. his doubts are about who he is dating and not what his relationship means. i dont love jp, rather than im going to be living as gay man, if you will. that will ultimately lead to 2 broken hearts - sarah and jp and craig going back to the life he is supposed to lead - a straight one, whether or not he live it in chester.

I think these sentences are very telling. There is a real possibility that, for all his "love" for John Paul, they will never become a couple, and that he will never find the right time to break up with Sarah. (If Craig and JP are found out, she will probably break up with him.)
And if he does get cold feet about John Paul, that just might be because he is not truly gay after all.
- …and then, when I am with you, I feel like my heart's gonna burst. - Craig! Craig, don't. - …the depth of that hurt will never go away.
lol i know...but loving how it says...he wants to love but the he truly is in love with JP and not her...his heart says one thing, but his mind says another....It's going to be such a dramatic and emotional episode! loving it!

Now if it were me, I'd phrase it more like he thinks he should love Sarah, but wants to love JP. It's only a small linguistic shift, and quite applicable. The feelings of security and reassurance he gets from JP are for greater than anything he gets from Sarah. Indeed this comment could be nothing more than how Craig perceives the affection each of the others holds for him, and being the vulnerable soul he is he's drawn towards JP. And I say that while still maintaining the objective view that Sarah's the one who may actually love him more.
I'd also still say it's facile to simply disregard sexuality with a shrug of somewhat laissez-faire shoulders and decide that if he gets on well with JP, and they enjoy having sex, why isn't that enough? Well to be sure there are people in this world for whom that would be more than they could hope for from the majority of relationships. And depending on your interpretation of love, and experience of it, you might consider this adequate. But to talk of this being one of the greatest love stories ever told, the great romantic overpowering loves which we are given to believe is driving Craig's psychosis seems a little overstated. Give them a year, together or apart, and their eyes would be wandering.

I should probably add, or clarify, that I don't think love is just a happy coincidence of friendship and lust. I mean, lust's all well and good, but I'd like to think there's a bit more to sex in a loving relationship.
