Yes - I did go through this on a reply in last week's so have a look at that for full details btu please have a look at the company you are sending material into to see how they like material presented.

Speaking for myself I don't like it when people send in their scripts with long rambling letters about what it is like "It's like Monty Python crossed with a boiled egg set in Black Adder etc." Can't see the point.

Be brief, friendly and always have that promise of more up your sleeve.

BUt in terms of competitiveness - I'd say they're all about the same... There's thousands trying to be a writer, just as there's thousands trying to be an actor or singer... But someone's got to make it - so there's always a chance, as long as you're sending things off going to auditions or whatever, and getting in front of as many people as possible... Smile

Oooo is this working this week? I think Mousevale your twist with Rooney killing kittens is more down the documentary alley than script writing.

Anyway Ric, is the occasional beard in the Comedy Report a comic device? and would you advocate utilising the beard technique/is it widely accepted in the industry?

I'm not really into making it. Just enjoying it. I think that is why I used to enjoy invisable theatre so much. The audience weren't aware that it was all make believe so it really removed the ego there. I think that's always where the problem lies. In the ego. It's a fragile thing. Everyone likes to be liked and it's tough when someone you don't know doesn't like you. But stuff em anyway!

Well the Internet is producing some very exciting stuff at the moment - there's material on YOutTube that's getting a bigger audience than a lot of TV shows can expect (especially on cable)...

I think that's absolutely right - you have to enjoy it, and LOVE it first and foremost, primarily because of the hours it will inevitably consume... Cool

Good point from MOuse there - I think a show like 'Ideal' had it set up perfect, particulalry for a first show... The whole series is pretty much set on the sets contatined within the flat... That would seem very cost effetive to me...

How much of that will an agent do and how much does the industry expect the writer to pick up on?

Hey AM BACK> Sorry but this is just not true. We reject stuff all the time beacuse it is not suitable for us but it might be great for other companies. It is hard to take rejection (we all get it) but writing is a pleasure and if you want to write professionally you are asking to be judged.

Harsh, but true.
