For the past week I've been trying to write a sketch a day, and managed it so far (see the test bed)

The Talk
Duel
Lost Earring
Surgey
Tarm Tarm

And I thought why not throw down the gauntlet to people on here..

So who's up for the sketch a day challenge?

I had a similar idea the other day to try and write a sketch on a topic beginning with every letter of the alphabet so I might start with airports then basketball then car thieves etc. I'm still on airports! Razz I havent really sat down and tried it but its also a good one to try out. I have written about 5 sketches in the past 2 weeks so i'm pretty happy with that.

Sorry for taking over your thread Danny, a sketch a day you say. Hmm challenge thought about and if i'm not too lazy also accepted. Cool

You know, Yielding did a fantastic A-Z set of sketches that he entered for one of the open comps... Well worth a peek... Thumbs Up

But this is a really great idea, yes - anything like this that gets the creativity flowing and sets goals is good exercise, and may produce some real gems... Nod

Writing a sketch a day is a good idea. I've been writing a couple per day for a while now. The best thing about it is that the more you write, the sooner you will find yourself with an excellent sketch.

An A-Z collection of sketches is an excellent challenge. I think I may have to get on to that one!

Yes!... This could be really fantastic for the new User Blog, to get everyone excited about the site again... Maybe do the sketch on a set theme, or maybe do the start of it for everyone to finish with their own version... And then we could post them here on the Forum... Thumbs Up

I like that. We're given the start of a sketch and we all do our own endings and we call it 'sketch-a-day'. It would really get the creative juices flowing and make things a little more interesting on the site. Thumbs Up

That's definitely what's needed, something like that - everyone's chomping at the bit for a challenge... Nod

Well done guys a sketch a day is brilliant Clapping

BUT.... On this site at the moment it's a waste of time, have you seen the comments on the test bed? as per usual a big fat zero.... All that work for nothing Frown
Write your sketch's and find somewhere to put them where it might do you some good, cos it ain't on here, I gave up the test bed at Christmas, it appears that most other people did too. Sleepy

I noticed that myself when I headed over there to check out the one's Danny mentioned above... Most of the sketches are sitting there with 0 replies... Which is a real shame...

I felt bad I didn't have time to comment myself as I would have liked, so I'll do a couple here...

'Duel' was a fantastic gag, and the best of the 'sketch-a-day' set... Should definitely be filmed as a JunkMales' piece... Clapping

Of the other stuff that was currently there, Otterfox's 'Star Trek Wedding' was absolutely superb... "I take thee to fix a warp core breach... Till death do us part, or you're assimilated by the Borg"... As a sci-fi geek, I got all the references straight away and it really had me laughing out loud... Well done... Clapping

But yes, the point was, it's probably a time factor for everyone else, too, re: posting comments... Or maybe they feel typing LOL isn't enough, or aren't sure how to phrase something more constructively critical... It's a difficult one... There's a couple of users there who are really good at offering suggestions for rewrites etc...

It's a good tool to have here on the site, but I can see if people are wanting comments they can use to help themselves improve and perfect their writing, it would be REALLY valuable to have an industry editor/producer giving them all the once over on a regular basis... I'm not sure if that's feasible, though, given the time they'd have to spend on it... Frown

I agree with what your saying, I can put comments on there about changing things in a sketch but at the end of the day what do I know, I'm swimming in the same pool searching for the same life boat, what makes one person laughs makes someone else cringe, and it always will, so unless someone with know how gives imput it's a great way to show your talent for writing but for advice at this moment in time it has very limited uses.

I only came onto this site last summer and missed the golden age as the site started out. It does seem to have lost it's way a little, communication isn't the best. The Tuesday happy hour was a great idea but more often than not it just happened without any warning and I know loads of people missed it, Rik did a great job but what most people need is some advice on the quality of their work and if their going wrong where to improve, and how to improve, now you can have 10 of the best WOW's in the world but one question and answer page open all the time would be better than all of them, if run by someone in the know.

Just my thoughts as a struggling writer, but hey I earnt £60 last month so the flash car and big house are only just around the corner.
Cool

I think they were planning to make 'professioinal feedback' a regular prize at one stage, certainly in the script comps... So you could submit your sitcoms and whatever and get them fully critiqued...

The next WOO is writing based, I believe... So you never know - it might crop up as the prize for that... Thumbs Up

Misread the new WOO actually - it's mentioned there in the latest Blog... It's kind of script-based, but is more about coming up with some stuff for a comic strip thing in association with 'Loaded'... Which I guess will get published in it's pages... Sounds good to me... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
