On fri 7th April 8pm ITV! After 30 womanising years, which have seen 23 girlfriends, four wives, seven illicit lovers and three illegitimate children come into his life - Mike Baldwin has finally walked Coronation Street’s cobbles for the last time.
In moving scenes, which will see him dying in the arms of his rival Ken Barlow, Johnny Briggs plays the Weatherfield Romeo for the last time as his character finally loses his battle with Alzheimer’s.
Now ITV1’s Farewell Mike takes a look back over his life - featuring an exclusive interview with Johnny himself, as well as moving tributes from his fellow cast members and friends and exclusive behind-the-scenes footage as he filmed his final scenes.
Narrated by Matthew Kelly, the documentary features archive footage of some of Mike Baldwin’s best moments – from the minute he stepped on the street as Bet Lynch’s flashy southern lover, to the heated affair with Deidre Barlow, the emotional scenes when his wife Alma died of cancer and the moment he discovered his young bride had been sleeping with his son.
Long-standing cast members Bill Roache, Anne Kirkbride, Sue Nicholls and Liz Dawn reveal what it has been like working with Johnny over the years and Bradley Walsh and Pauline Fleming discuss filming the emotion-filled final scenes.
Bill Roache talks about his character’s long-running feud with Mike and reveals that Ken felt threatened when Mike arrived on the street, but it made the part more exciting for Bill.

think mikes storyline fab but just thinking after all the years he.s put into corrie would have liked him too go under nicer circumstances. perhaps ;going off too spain happy with penny or deirdrie; but his acting is superb
Your so right Ponny, and i think Alma's departure wasnt right either. He will be missed like all the other old stars that left the cobbles. A fine actor he is.
Thats ok angel, i really will be upset myself as well, i dont think i could watch it you know. He's been a git in the past, but he's a great actor and character, he will be missed and next week is when he passes away in Kens arms.

Apparently Johnnie Briggs asked to be killed off and is v proud to be doing the story line. \he is also surprised by all the letters he has received praising his acting. So he is very pleased and is off to his house in Spain in real life.

My Dad has it. Found the storyline very upsetting too and often couldn't quite handle watching it all... that is an indication how well they got across how people who have it can be. - it is such a cruel illness and i think that Johnny Briggs was superb and did the role justice.

I never said I am always right... I just think I am!

MY Aunt also has it. One thing I have also noticed that Corrie have made people bring the illness out into the open. Its good that we are discussing it. some people feel there is a stigma to it. Think Corrie has done well to educate people.
My Gramdma had Alzheimers back In the mid 70's, though it was known then as senile dementia. This storyline has brought back a lot of memories for me, some sad, some not so sad. Have to say I have never been so moved by any soap storyline as this one. Johnny Briggs has portrayed Mike's illlness brilliantly, hope he gets some recognition for this
Always be yourself as you can't be anyone else, unless of course you have multiple identities.
Alzheimer’s - I feel so sorry for Mike, the storyline has had me in tears everytime its on, from being such a well respected, well built/constucted man to have fallen so badly into something he cant control is sooo sad...ill be sad to see him leave!!
johnny must have done a lot of reasearch on this, cos he really does look like he has it,but i am glad he wasn't killed off,but it will be sad to see him go.

Wait and watch Fridays I said that somewhere else about the research, although I suppose he could have someone close suffering from it but hes excelled himself in this story line, he`ll certainly be leaving Corrie on a high
