Coronation Street's Maria Sutherland faces pregnancy heartbreak in an upcoming storyline, The Sun reports.

Hairdresser Maria, played by Samia Smith, is rushed to hospital when she realises her baby has stopped kicking.

A soap insider revealed: "The scripts are absolute tearjerkers. Because the pregnancy is so advanced, the midwives at the hospital advise her that it may be best to have her labour induced straight away.

"So she has to go through the terrible ordeal of giving birth to her lifeless baby.

"Samia Smith is a terrific actress but she couldn’t help being affected by these harrowing scenes."

Maria is so distraught after losing her child that she can't bring herself to tell husband Liam.

The storyline will air on Coronation Street at the end of April

Why can't soaps let anyone be happy. They say they are trying to be realistic, but plenty people are happy in real life.

i thought they would of let her have this baby it would of been really great. what is it with soap operas and loosing babies

i wonder if cos after liams gone they will be stuck for a story line with maria as a single mom.

they do struggle to leave people be tho, maria will never be happy

ok...has it not been rubbish enough that maria has had to fight off carla to be happy with liam, then she nearly lost him in the lake district...and now this...in the name of the little man...soap writers jst dnt want people to be happy!!

I bet Liam will be off with Carla while all this is happening with Maria.The poor mite,but to tell the truth i never could get my head around Maria and Liam getting together just don't think they are suited.

in the daily mail and the sun there is pictures of the funeral, it looks so sad

I won't be watching that.

It sounds too harrowing. I know these things happen, but it all adds to the worry of people who may be facing similar situations.

I'm due to give birth at the end of April and can't think of anything more devastating than this storyline.

This is just another ridiculous storyline to pile on top of the myriad of others Corrie have done in recent times. I cannot bear the stupid Michelle/bab swap thing, let alone having this with Maria now.

i dont like maria but i do feel a bit sorry for now i have read this.

apparantly he is in bed with carla when she loses the baby because it said so in the paper after showing a pic of him holding the coffin. he is wracked with guilt apparantly.

Does everyone in Corrie lose their baby??

just read that Smaia Smith got her inspiration for her acting in this storyline from her mum as her mum gave birth to a stillborn child to.
