From what I have seen recently. Ninja

It has the Eric P. And the Val. And the Ivan. And the Piggies. And the Diane. And the Bob. And the Viv. And the Andy! And the Paul. And the Betty Eggleton.

None of the other soaps have such good characters. Ninja

The current Dawn story should stand as a lesson to all those on Benefits who think they can tag on a job (or two) and still claim State MoneySmile

It just isn't right to expect handouts and Moonlight at the same time.

Dawn should recieve (IMHO) a "Suspended" sentance and be ordered to pay back all the money she's claimed since taking on the extra cash in hand jobs -it's only fair.

Terry and Viv should share any child-minding duties (between them) whilst Dawn gets herself back to full time work.

i agree it will for people like dawn who owns her own house and doesn't have the fear of having her home taken away etc. but have you ever lived on benefits? i do, but i don't work or earn any other money by the way, but i do see why some people do it, it is a very big struggle when you are limited to what the government think you can live on, they don't include having the money to pay for presents for christmas or the ever increasing power supply charges or even school uniforms etc. some weeks i have a tenner in my purse and thats it Smile it's not nice at all and if i could work, i would Smile infact i miss work Frown

I agree Sizz, Dawn was asking for trouble working and claiming benefits. I have no time for people who abuse the system like that. It gives genuine claimants a bad name. Mad

We are on benefits as well Jet, Hubby has Ostio Arthritus and had to pack up work a few years ago ... We are in this postion through no fault of our own. Its the pits having to live on benefits. My Daughter pays for the internet as theres no way we could afford that. I get so p*ssed off when people openly flaunt working on the side and claiming benefits. Mad

me too hun and none of the ones i see ever get caught, but most of them are friends so i would never tell on them, but it does annoy me when people like us have to scrap by. i only have the gym as a treat and that's only because b/f pays for it

I was on benefits and owned my own home and the DHSS do not pay all your mortgage, they pay the interest, so you are getting behind with the payments, which the mortgage company only sympathise with for a short while. I don`t agree with what Dawn was doing BUT I can see why she did it Smile

Sounds like you had a worrying time Frown

I was on Benefits about 20 years ago when thanks to Mrs Thatcher unemployment was rife in South Wales. I hated it but did not do a Dawn. I moved to London and fortunately have been working ever since.

Emmerdale has been the best soap for a long time, but unfortunately, it's face doesn't fit, so it never wins awards.

I eventually lost the house, too many arrears once I started working and I couldn`t catch up. I never knew it was only the interest being paid till I was approached by the mortgage company about clearing the arrears. While its wrong, I can understand you and others doing it, I`m pleased things worked out for you, as they did me, eventually Smile
